Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Division of Regional Cooperation (DRC) helps to implement UNEP's global programs in the regions by initiating, coordinating and catalyzing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies. This position is located in the United Nations Environment Programme, Division of Regional Cooperation at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
 


Job Details

Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain the websites for DRC Headquarters in accordance with UNEP web development guidelines and in consultation with Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI); Review regularly all websites to ensure conformity with UNEP policies, standards and guidelines and perform quality control checks. 2. Identify web requirements, develop, maintain and update the websites; provide and interpret web statistics and identify means of improving web performance; Prepare information/document summaries from various sources for web posting; Provide support in editing and revising web content.

3. Provide technical support for preparation of communication materials as brochures, fliers and other communication materials; Assist in performing print media and electronic document conversion to prepare them into a web format. 4. Provide basic support in planning specification, design development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems in cooperation with United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS). 5. Provide IT assistance in the coordination of the Division's Programme of Work planning and preparation; Research, compile, analyze, summarize and present basic information on specific programmes and projects in DRC as well as the status of implementation of the Programme of Work and prepare a variety of periodic reports. 6. Prepare, maintain and update the electronic shared folder within the Division; perform any other duties assigned.

Education

Completion of secondary school is required. Supplementary training in computer programming, web design and development or related training in information technology is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of six years of progressive responsible experience in information systems administration and maintenance is required. Experience in operating systems, sofware development, website design, development and maintanance, project administration and/or management is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
