Kibodo Trust Chief Executive Officer Job in Kenya

Kibodo Trust is a community based organization & development initiative situated in Kenya’s North Coast.

The Trust encompasses three National Reserves, Kiunga Marine, Boni Forest & Dodori Reserve, & receives funding from a number of sources including Flora & Fauna International, the US Government via USAID, & Tusk Trust.

Kibodo Trust is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of
 Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Answerable to the Board of Trustee, the CEO will have operational & fiscal responsibility of the Trust & will work in collaboration with the partner organizations.


Key role being:
  • To develop strategic plans for the Trust
  • Advocating & lobbying for conservation interests in the Kibodo area
  • Provide overall management (day- to -day implementation of project activities) & strategic vision of the Trust
  • Coordinating activities with other stakeholders, KWS, FoD, KFS, Counties of Lamu & Ijara, NRT, NEMA , Public Administration & member communities.
  • Preparing both operational & financial reports for submission to relevant Trust committees & prepare quarterly, annual & other periodic reports for donor agencies
  • Provision of technical support, training & overall capacity-building to the Kibodo Trust Community officers & relevant community committees.
  • Collating & analysing field data for reports & providing consistent updates from the field for dissemination to senior management & partners;
  • Grant-writing to secure support for Kibodo Trust field operations, & management of & reporting on secured grants;
  • Organizing & facilitating Trustee & Management committee meetings
  • Conducting monitoring & evaluation jointly with other partners to track project progress
Required Qualifications:

He/She must have/be
  • At least a higher second or first degree in Environmental Sciences, Wildlife Management, Community Development, Entrepreneurship or Social Sciences with good understanding of the Project Management cycle;
  • At least 5 years experience in community-based management projects with special interest in environmental conservation & poverty reduction issues.
  • Excellent community mobilization & organizational skills;
  • A good understanding of the local context/issues particularly relating to environmental & poverty concerns;
  • Good communication & inter-personal skills;
  • Computer literate with good technical report writing skills;
  • Able to work with minimum supervision;
  • Basic accounting, book keeping skills will also be an advantage
  • The ability to participate in strategy development, manage implementation of the projects & work independently
  • Excellent written & verbal communication in English & Kiswahili, & experience of liaison with parastatal / government entities such as KWS, Forestry or Fisheries Services will be an advantage.
This position comes with an attractive salary & requires travel to & from the Kibodo area on a regular basis.
