Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited (Kenya Re), is a leading reinsurer in the region listed at the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE). It is ISO 9001: 2008 Certified and rated B+ by A.M Best and AA by the Global Credit Rating Company (GCR).

Kenya Re now seeks to recruit and fill the following positions:-

General Manager (Finance & Investments)
Ref No. KRC/HR/002/01

The selected candidate will report to the Managing Director and will be responsible for the management of all the accounting, financial and investment functions of the Corporation.

The main duties will include but will not be limited to; designing, implementing, maintaining and updating sound accounting systems, standards, policies and procedures which help to safeguard the Corporation’s assets.

The successful candidate will establish an effective treasury management system that secures Corporation funds, monitors liquidity, cash flow, investments and working capital and ensure maximization of profits in an efficient and optimum manner.

In addition to these he or she will provide financial advice to Management and the Board, prepare and analyze financial reports for their use, ensure the timely preparation and presentation of financial reports.

He or she will co-ordinate relations with external auditors, tax and insurance regulatory authorities, ensuring compliance with all statutory provisions with respect to financial reporting, taxation, returns and allied matters, as well as manage, guide and supervise staff in Finance and Investments department.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related fields and post graduate degree holders in the relevant field.
  • The person should be a fully qualified accountant with CPA (K), ACCA or equivalent qualifications with membership in recognized professional bodies.
  • In addition they should have over eight years’ financial and accounting management experience, gained in a reputable organization, five of which should be at senior management level.
  • Applicants should demonstrate a high level of integrity.
Chief Accountant

The successful candidate will manage and maintain accounting records to the required standards of internal financial management reports and external audits.

He or she will advise management on sound financial policy procedures and control systems that ensure accountability in all areas, prepare the annual budget and long-term projections and ensure preparation of periodic financial reports to management.

The selected candidate will ensure preparation of financial and management statements as per set requirements. He or she will ensure appropriate maintenance of the general ledger, balancing and reconciling control accounts and prepare financial reports.

He or she will advise management on revenue and costing issues, ensure the fixed assets register is appropriately maintained and updated, oversee preparation and management of the payroll, ensure all statutory deductions and payments are made, liaise with external auditors during audits and oversee the maintenance of bank information and bank reconciliations.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related fields and fully qualified accountants with CPA (K), ACCA or hold equivalent qualifications.
  • In addition they should be members of recognized professional bodies and should have at least six years experience in Financial and Management Accounting, two of which should be at management level.
  • The selected candidate should be a team player with excellent interpersonal, management and communication skills and high integrity.
  • He or she should be computer literate with sound familiarity of standard office computer applications.
  • They should have an in depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards, analytical skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Reinsurance Accountants (2)
Ref No. KRC/HR/002/03

The selected candidate(s) will provide finance and accounting support to the reinsurance business.

The main responsibilities will include but not be limited to ensuring reconciliations of individual cedants and retro creditors, pass the necessary entries, ensure reconciliation of premium and loss reserve accounts, portfolio premium, loss entries and withdrawals.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of a Bachelors degree in Accounting and should in addition be professionally qualified accountants with CPA (K) or ACCA with over three years relevant experience in finance and accounting.
  • Experience in insurance or reinsurance industry and use of SUN System will be an added advantage.
Internal Audit Manager 
Ref No. KRC/HR/002/04

The selected candidate will be the head of Internal Audit Division and Secretary of the Audit Committee of the Board. The person will report to the Managing Director and Audit Committee of the Board.

The main duties will include but will not be limited to; developing audit programs, plans and schedules of areas to be reviewed for approval by the Board, analyzing the outcomes of audit activities and following up on implementation of agreed recommendations.

He or she will prepare and present monthly and quarterly audit reports to the management and Audit Committee of the Board, coordinate and carry out audit and investigation activities to ensure that the Corporation’s assets are safeguarded against misuse and loss.

In addition the successful candidate will be responsible for establishing policies for risk analysis, risk based auditing activities, directing the technical and administrative functions, developing and executing comprehensive audit progress for evaluation of the management controls of all Corporation activities, business advisory on risks and appropriate mitigation factors.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or related fields with CPA (K) or ACCA qualifications and members of recognized professional bodies. CISA qualification will be an advantage.
  • The successful candidate should be computer literate with a minimum of six years experience in relevant audit or risk management position.
  • Two of these years should have been at a senior management position.
  • Experience in the insurance industry will be an added advantage.
Manager Life Division 
Ref No. KRC/HR/002/05

The Manager – Life will be responsible for soliciting and receiving business offers from existing and potential clients, assessing such offers, in line with the Corporations’ underwriting policy.

He or she will be responsible for managing and carrying out prudent underwriting in life reassurance and insurance operations with a view to increasing premiums in order to bring about growth and profits to the Corporation and its various stakeholders.

The main duties will include but not be limited to; the preparation of life division business plans, reports and budgets, underwriting both group and individual life business covering local and international markets, processing death and disability claims.

Other functions will include maintaining and growing the market share and increasing market presence and visibility through aggressive marketing strategies as well as the development of new products.

He or she will also collate and compile market statistics, coordinate with the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) provide management with business information and enhance the division’s efficiency.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Insurance, BSc. Actuarial Sciences or BA Economics degrees or relevant fields.
  • They should have FCII or ACII professional qualifications or its equivalent with at least 6 years relevant experience in Life Insurance in a reinsurance or insurance firm, three of which should have been in senior management.
  • Candidates should be honest, assertive and result-oriented team players with leadership and management qualities, pleasant personality, effective communication and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
Manager Claims Division

The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and handling of claims for the business that the Corporation participates in.

He or she will be responsible for securing appropriate confirmations, authentication and documentation of claims as well as disbursing, recovering, monitoring and coordinating with other divisions on aspects of claims management and settlements.

In addition to these the successful candidate will liaise with other reinsurance and insurance institutions on management, settlement and processing of claims, approving, vetting and seeking appropriate approvals for settlement, maintaining statistics of all losses and claims paid by the Corporation and advising management on measures to curtail or reduce losses.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Insurance, Law or a Business related field with professional ACII qualifications.
  • They should have at least 6 years of relevant experience in Claims Management in a reinsurance or insurance firm three of which should have been at senior management level.
Manager (Marketing and Business Development)

The successful candidate will be responsible for among other duties; developing and implementing marketing strategies and operations, providing competitive information, planning, co-ordination and evaluation of marketing plans and strategies.

He or she will prepare, monitor and evaluate Corporate plans and in consultations with underwriters source for facultative and treaty reinsurance business locally and Internationally.

The selected candidate will produce statistical information and market intelligence reports on trends, act as a focal point of reference on matters affecting the insurance and reinsurance industry and advice management accordingly.

In addition to these they will identify and develop new business opportunities, increase the Corporation’s involvement with existing clients, assess and develop partnerships.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Marketing or a Business related field with ACII qualifications.
  • Relevant professional membership with bodies such as the Marketing Society of Kenya and Chartered Institute of Marketers (CIM) will be an added advantage.
  • Applicants must have at least six years of relevant experience in Marketing and Business development in a reinsurance or insurance firm two of which should have been at management level.
Manager (Corporate Affairs)

The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the Corporation’s public relations and corporate social responsibility activities with a view to creating a positive understanding of key actions, decisions and events by all the stakeholders.

He or she will develop and ensure timely and efficient implementation of the Corporate Affairs strategy and annual work plans and budgets, plan and conduct programmes designed to create and maintain a positive image of the Corporation to the external publics and handle all protocol issues.

He or she will plan and direct communication strategies designed to keep internal publics informed of the Corporations’ programmes and policies, produce appropriate communication and dissemination of the same through presentations, speeches and establish and maintain regular contact with media practitioners with a view to enhancing goodwill and positive coverage for the Corporation.

In addition to these the successful candidate will enhance communication between the Corporation, insurance industry, the Government and the Public.

He or she will plan and execute the Corporation’s participation in key corporate and social events, including annual general meetings, conferences, anniversaries, customer forums, receptions and media events.

They should produce necessary materials for promotion of the Corporation’s image, website updates and initiate and coordinate the production of in-house publications and magazines.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Communication, Journalism or relevant fields.
  • They should have a diploma in Public Relations or Mass Communications.
  • The person should have a minimum of six years relevant working experience two of which should have been at management level.
  • They should be team players and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • In addition they should have excellent planning, organizing and negotiation skills, computer literacy and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Assistant Manager (Procurement)

The selected candidate will support the division by maintaining sound procurement policies that ensure sourcing and acquisition of goods, services and works is done while adhering to the laid down regulations.

He or she will ensure timely, efficient and effective procurement of goods, services and works; prepare requisitions for quotations or tenders to prequalified suppliers or the public and establish in co-ordination with the relevant departments and end-users, quality specifications of goods and services required by the Corporation.

In addition he or she will carry out designated checks on quality and security aspects of procurement, ensure equitable and fair distribution of Requests For Proposals to all pre-qualified suppliers, review the supply chain to ensure it is efficient and effective and oversee the receipt of all tender applications ensuring that they are in safe custody.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in a business related field with professional qualifications in Purchasing and Supplies such as CIPS or its equivalent.
  • They should have five years experience in purchasing and supplies, two of which must have been at management level.
  • The person should have high integrity, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, familiarity with public procurement guidelines and procedures and a team player with strong leadership and management skills.
  • They should be computer literate and have the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Executive Assistant 
Ref No: KRC/HR/002/10

The successful candidate will be in charge of the day to day management of the Managing Director’s and Chairman’s office and provide high level administrative support to enhance office effectiveness.

The main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to; managing the MD’s and Chairman’s diary, coordinating the flow of visitors, receive messages, type and dispatch letters and documents.

He or she will provide support in coordination of Board and Executive committee meetings, maintain clear records and efficient filing systems of the MD’s and Chairman’s office, organize and maintain office administration processes and information systems and act as a liaison person with other departments to ensure effective flow of information.

The Person
  • Applicants should be holders of Bachelors degree in Secretarial, Business Administration or Social Sciences from a reputable university and holders of professional qualifications in office management and administration.
  • Knowledge of French will be an added advantage.
  • They should have at least 5 years experience in a similar position, training in Ms Office applications and executive office management, proven analytical skills, demonstrate competency in handling situations with tact and diplomacy, ability to prioritize a busy workload and deliver on tight timelines.
  • He or she should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task.
