Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). The post is located in the Administration Unit of the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) in UNON.

Responsibilities

Under the general guidance of the Chief, UNON/ICTS and the direct supervision of the Officer-in-Charge, Administration Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Implementation of the iNeed System: Initiate and coordinate the process and implementation; Monitor installation; Test and debug the system to ensure proper installation; Evaluate and implement process; Perform routine operations of assigned systems and coordinate training of the system to the end users.

2. Maintenance of Hardcat System: Maintain up-do-date records of ICTS equipment in Hardcat; Prepare reports on inventories; Coordinate training of the system.

3. Coordination of the ICTS Internship programme: Initiate, review, process and follow-up on actions related to identifying suitable interns; Receive, orientate and assign tasks to interns; Review assigned tasks and monitor attendance; Analyze interns' reports from their supervisors; Liaise with Staff Development and Training Unit to ensure benefits for interns and ICTS.

4. Maintenance of an up-to-date records of IT equipment procurement processes, receipts and logistics: Ensure accuracy of receipt and inspection reports; Manage the automated inventory management system; Perform hardware and software configuration; Receive, inspect and tag IT equipment.

5. Coordination of ICTS meetings; Manage the automated service request system; Create and assign work orders; Manage and maintain IT service provision at the Cyber Café; Monitor and maintain warehouse stock levels and equipment; Initiate, review and coordinate the decommissioning process of obsolete and faulty IT equipment.

Education

Completion of secondary education, supplemental courses/technical certificate in information technology or other related field.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in the information technology field. Experience in the administration, management and operation of a large IT environment with MS servers desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations Officials language is an advantage.

Appointment against this post is on a local basis. External candidates will be considered only when no suitable internal candidate from the duty station is identified. The candidate is responsible for any travel expenses incurred in order to take-up the appointment. Staff members are subject to the authority of and assignment by the Secretary-General. All staff are expected to move periodically to new functions.
