KITUO is seeking to recruit dynamic, self driven and result oriented persons to fill in the positions of a Coordinator Forced Migration Program, Program/Legal Officer Forced Migration Program and Program/Legal Officer Legal Aid and Education Program.

Coordinator, Forced Migration Program - Eastleigh 
Ref: KCS/CFMP-EST/APP

Responsible to the Executive Director for strategic planning, budgeting, co-ordinating, developing and implementing of the Forced Migration programme aimed at empowering urban refugees and IDPs to access their human rights.

Also responsible for fund raising for programmes and developing improved systems and procedures as well as monitoring and evaluating programme activities and individual performance against set targets.

Other duties include report writing, team building, providing effective leadership and implementing on-the-job training to improve employee performance.

Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, with relevant training in human rights focusing on refugee issues or equivalent qualifications.
  • Must have been an Advocate of the High Court for a minimum of five (5) years, with a current practising certificate.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate a track record of success in managing a legal and human rights programme for a minimum of two (2) years.
Skills:
  • Must be proactive with strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Also must be proficient in using word processing and spreadsheet computer packages.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
  • Developing appropriate fundraising strategies as well as sustainable alternative revenue sources
  • Developing appropriate public relations strategies designed to promote KITUO’s image and relations with all stakeholders.
  • Reviewing the operations and results of the organisation and providing periodical reports to the Executive Director.
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of legal services such as the preliminary screening of clients, provision of legal advice, counselling clients and drafting case pleadings, court representation as well as dealing with client complaints.
  • Develop and implement appropriate workflow systems and processes for clients accessing services at KITUO, appropriate feedback and monitoring and evaluation system to ensure effectiveness and institutional learning
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams to monitor, document and seek redress for refugee related human rights abuses
  • Develop and operationalize effective reporting mechanisms for the Forced Migration programme
Legal/Progam Officer – Eastleigh 
Ref: KCS/LPO-EST/APP

Responsible to the Coordinator Forced Migration program for providing legal advice, court representation and legal awareness education to clients on matters related to legal and human rights, land, labour and other legal issues.

Also responsible for counselling clients and sensitising communities to build a factual basis for preparing court cases. Other duties include helping communities to develop institutional capacity to enable them advocate and lobby for legal protection

Minimum Qualification: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or equivalent qualification.
  • Must be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practising certificate and minimum of 2 years experience in civil and criminal litigation in a human rights organisation or busy law firm.
  • Knowledge of refugee law is an added advantage.
Skills:
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as proficiency in using word-processing and spreadsheet computer packages.
  • Must also demonstrate skills in arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, counselling and community organisation.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
  • Providing legal and sound advice to individual clients and community groups as well as counselling clients on legal matters especially refugee related.
  • Preparing demand letters on behalf of clients as well as drafting accurate case pleadings, applications for summary judgements, court injunctions and dismissals.
  • Effective representation of clients and community groups in courts of law, tribunals and other legal forums including arbitration proceedings.
  • Assisting individual clients and community groups to negotiate outside court settlements in matters that involve legal disputes.
