Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) is an institution under the Ministry of Education that offers In-service Education and Training (INSET) for Mathematics and Science Teachers in Kenya.

The Centre also services as a Regional INSET Centre for Strengthening of Mathematics and Science Education in Western, Eastern, Central and Southern African (SMASE WECSA) from 34 African countries.

CEMASTEA is looking for professionals of high integrity, who are dependable, team players and able to meet strict deadlines to fill the following roles;

Cook

The cook will maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas; clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils; cook and package batches of food, which are prepared to order or kept warm until served; cook the exact number of items and work on several different orders simultaneously; measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared; operate various cooking equipments; prepare and serve beverages as required;
prepare and cook food according to instructions; verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity; wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking; clean, stock, and restock workstations and display cases; order and take delivery of supplies; Schedule activities and equipment use with managers, using information about daily menus to help coordinate cooking times; serve orders to customers at windows, counters, or tables; take food and drink orders and receive payment from customers.

Requirements

Certificate in Institutional Management/Food and Beverage production or any other equivalent qualification, previously served as Cook or its comparable and relevant position for at least three (3) years; Certificate of good health; Good planning and organizing skills; Attention to detail; Team working skills; Good social and interpersonal skills.

Supply Chain Assistant

The supply assistant will be responsible for coordinating the purchase of supplies for the department with vendors; maintain a filing system in accordance with internal procedures; maintain office supply inventories and order supplies as necessary; receive approved requisitions and prepare and dispatch IPO’s as needed for goods and services and follow up to ensure timely delivery; Maintaining registers of Receipt and issued stores from the central store; Carrying out stocktaking of stores; Issuing and rationing of stores; Identifying of unserviceable stores/ or other stores for disposal; and Ensuring general care and cleanliness of the stores.

Requirements

A Diploma in Supplies Management or its equivalent qualification; Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C-(minus) with a minimum of C- in Mathematics and English or Kiswahili or its equivalent; Proficiency in computer applications; At least 3 years Procuring experience; Negotiation and planning skills; Attentive to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Accounts Assistant

The Accountant will be responsible for collection of funds from the Centre’s income generating activities; maintenance of cash ledgers and general accounts reconciliations; preparation of payment vouchers and making authorized payments; maintenance of an efficient filing system of payment vouchers, receipts and invoices.

Requirements

CPA (2) from recognized institution or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; and at least 3 years experience; Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C (Plain) or its equivalent with C+ (Plus) in Mathematics and English; At least two years experience in
a busy environment; Proficient in computerized accounting packages including Microsoft office applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, pastel/ACCPAK, database, E-mail and internet; good planning and organizing skills.

Housekeeper/ Cateress

The Housekeeper will be responsible for liaising with the Procurement Department in ensuring that materials required are available; working with the Finance Department in purchasing of the equipment and materials required for food preparation; plan, pre-prep, cook and serve a variety of food items for luncheons, special occasion lunch and dinners and other special events; ability to plan menus, determine quantities of food needed; considerable ability to plan, cook, garnish, set up and serve large functions; maintain and ensure healthy standards; food service and presentation; kitchen management; maintain high standards of hygiene; food preparation of different types; Supervise the cooks, laundry assistants and train them accordingly.

Requirements

A Diploma in Food Beverages and Institutional Management or its equivalent; A certificate of good health; Prior experience as Housekeeper/Cateress or a comparable and relevant position for at least three (3) years; Good organizing skills; Team working and interpersonal skills.

Assistant Librarian

The Assistant Librarian will be responsible for identification and acquisition of library materials; preparation and organization of library resources; bibliographic searching and retrieval through bibliographic checks and searches; process requests for, and disseminate publications; serials
processing, circulation and lending; reference and information services; specialized subject and language knowledge at a level necessary; maintain serial records and update database; shelving and filing of materials; provide user services, including addressing inquiries and document delivery; Leading or supervising employees in a working unit.

Requirements

A Diploma in Library Studies or Information Science or their recognised equivalent qualification; Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean Grade C or its equivalent qualification with at least a C (plain) in either Mathematics, English or Kiswahili; Proficiency in computer applications; At least 2 years experience; Performance of technical duties requiring operational level skills and a basic knowledge of library practices and procedures; Familiarity and experience
in maintenance of information databases on library software; Experience in assisting users with reference and research enquiries using the internet; A proven ability to work under limited or no supervision.

Personal Secretary

The Personal Secretary will support the overall administration of on-going programmes; this entails sending out mails, organizing meetings including sending out invites, assisting with follow-ups after meetings

Make travel, accommodation arrangements and schedule meetings; Handling correspondence both incoming/outgoing, handling calls and screening calls; Organizing internal events and participating in external events; Prepare briefing notes, reports and presentations as required; Perform secretarial duties including typing, filing and drafting letters; Attending meetings and minute taking; handle inquiries at the front desk

Requirements

Have served satisfactorily in the grade of Secretarial Assistant or equivalent position for at least three years; passed the following subjects offered by KNEC;(Short hand III (minimum 100wpm);Typewriting III (50wpm);Business English III; Communication Skills II; Commerce II; Office practice II; Secretarial Duties II and Office Management III;) A certificate in Computer Applications (Ms Word, Ms Excel, Ms Access and internet) from a recognized institution;

Substantial experience in office administration; Report writing skills; Excellent organization skills and attention to detail and a sense of urgency; Ability to manage and prioritize challenging workloads; Strongly results oriented, ability to work independently and show initiative; Communication and interpersonal skills; Good command of the English language (both written and spoken); Administrative skills and excellent interpersonal skills; Follow up skills; Pleasant personality.

Laundry Assistant

The Laundry Assistant will ensure Health and Safety policies are followed strictly in the laundry room; manage the laundry procedures and required flow of laundry to prevent a build up; ensure that personal laundry is identified and returned to the correct individual; ensure stocks of detergent, fabric conditioner etc are maintained; be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of laundry equipment and the daily reporting; distribute laundry to the appropriate rooms; ensure the correct marking of different laundry; keep the laundry room and store area in a clean and hygienic condition; take up other duties assigned.

Requirements

Certificate in Laundry management/Housekeeping; A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Mean grade D( plain); Certificate of Health; At least 1 year experience; Attentive to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision; Good planning and organizing skills; Ability to multi-task.

Waiter/Waitress

The Waitress/ Waiter will ensure that customers are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems; explain how various menu items are prepared; Cleaning service equipments; Serving of food and beverages; Cleaning the dining hall, tables, cruets and ensuring proper handling of cutlery and other equipment; Welcoming and directing guests as appropriate.

Requirements

A Certificate in Food and Beverage Service and Sales or a relevant qualification; Certificate of good health; Prior experience of 2 years in a busy work environment preferably hotel, restaurant or an institution; Excellent presentation and organizing skills; Work under pressure; Attentive to detail.
