Build Africa Kenya (BAK) Communications Officer Job Vacancy

Build Africa Kenya (BAK) is a Non Governmental Organization that works exclusively in rural areas of Kenya to help young people escape poverty by supporting education and income generation activities.

We work with key stakeholders in Gilgil, Elementaita, Machakos and Mwala regions in implementing integrated programmes in Education, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health, livelihoods and skills development including income generation.

We are seeking a talented and socially responsible individual who has experience of working in a marketing, fundraising, communications or journalistic role to support our fund raising team.

Key Role and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Country Director, the position is responsible for generating a regular supply of materials to help in fundraising on an agreed schedule.

Working with Programme staff, the Communication Officer will provide support to the fundraising team by:
  • Collecting routine materials to illustrate needs and impact, as well as identifying particular stories and individuals and make follow ups on an ongoing basis.
  • Coordinate and edit photographic materials, interviews and case studies of beneficiaries in featured ‘Build a Community’ schools and Village Savings and Loan Associations (and their families)
  • Preparing detailed progress reports.
  • Obtaining, assembling, coordinating materials and events for specific campaigns or events such as Build Africa Kenya annual gala dinner and corporate networking events.
Skills and Experience:

The right applicant will have excellent communication skills with good understanding of what motivates donors and therefore be able to present BAK work in the most compelling way.

You must be inventive, good at spotting opportunities and tracking down stories that will give our fundraising efforts a real edge.

He/she must have a good eye for photography and shooting video footage, as well as the aptitude to edit media in Adobe Photoshop and Serif MoviePlus.

Experience of using a website content management system is desirable but not essential.

You should be able to speak up and proactively raise issues. Besides being a good team player, you should be ready to work with minimum supervision sometimes under harsh field conditions.
