AMREF, HENNET Research Officer and Project Officer Jobs in Nairobi Kenya

Engaging Civil Society Organizations – Human Resources for Health Project has received a grant from the European Union. The project aims at engaging civil society organizations (CSOs) to support national health workforce policies, strategies, capacity building, and skills transfer.

The objective of the project is to contribute to the increase in the ratio of the skilled health workforce to population as well as to achieve an equitable distribution of the health human resource in the country.

The three partners who will be implementing this project are World Vision Kenya, AMREF Kenya and HENNET.

Under this project AMREF (www.amref.org) will be recruiting a Research Officer and HENNET (www.hennet.or.ke) will be recruiting a Project Officer.

Research Officer

Reports to Programme Manager HIV/AIDS and based in AMREF Nairobi

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead in the implementation of research programme activities ensuring integration and synergy between activities under various project results areas.
  • Provide regular support to the research teams during their assignments.
  • Assist the Programme Manager in the coordination of research teams.
  • Document and prompt members on specific actions agreed by teams during their meetings.
  • Carry out documentation of various reports and other materials relating to research.
  • Coordinate the research cycle including but not limited to concept and protocol development, data collection, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Maintain proper storage of documents related to research work and consultancies.
  • Provide technical support in the mapping of community units.
  • Manage research resources for the project, ensuring adherence to the research standards of AMREF and the other partners.
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • The ideal candidate should have a Bachelors degree in Public Health, relevant Social Sciences or its equivalent, a post graduate degree is desirable.
  • Five years working experience in managing research at least two in a busy NGO.
  • Skills in study design, research methodology, data analysis, report writing, dissemination for various audiences including policy makers and peer review processes.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative in the use of statistical analysis packages such as STATA; SPSS, Epi info.
  • Should demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks and produce reports on time and work both independently with multi-disciplinary and multicultural team environment.
  • Should have excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.

Project Officer

Reports to the Director and based in HENNET Nairobi

Purpose of the Job:

To provide evidence based health advocacy on human resources for health among both state and non state actors with a clear mandate of influencing both policy and practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support implementation of HENNET strategic plan and work plan.
  • Provide technical input into HENNET documents and other documents sent to HENNET for review.
  • Engage in Human Resources for Health (HRH) advocacy and research with the aim of influencing change in policies, law and practice.
  • Engage with policy makers at local, regional and international levels on HRH issues.
  • Work with consultants to produce quality resource materials for the network
  • Implement and coordinate all the networks internal communications, media interactions and external public relations.
  • Participate in design, editing and production of Information Education Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Facilitate participation of HENNET members in key activities and other relevant key stakeholder forums especially on HRH related forums.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual donor reports.
  • Upload HENNET documents on the HENNET website and keep members informed of the various activities in the sector.
  • Manage communications and customer relations systems in the network.
Qualifications and Competencies:
  • The ideal candidate should have a first degree in Communications, Journalism, relevant Social Sciences or its equivalent.
  • At least three years experience in communications and policy advocacy work.
  • Experience in a health NGO is an added advantage. Good ICT and publication skills.
  • The candidate should have good understanding of the health sector particularly laws and policies, coupled with knowledge of working with the Ministries of Health and Civil Society Organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team player.
