VSF Suisse Field Veterinarian and Livestock Technician Jobs in Kenya

VSF Suisse is an International NGO supporting humanitarian and development interventions in the region mainly in Southern Sudan, Kenya, and Somalia.

VSF Suisse focus is on the alleviation of hunger, poverty, diseases and suffering of people in whose cultures and livelihoods livestock play a major role.

VSF-Suisse seeks to fill the following positions for its Projects being implemented in North Eastern Province of Kenya in Wajir and Mandera County and in Eastern Province in Isiolo County.

The positions are field based (remote) and candidates should be willing to reside and work under basic living conditions.

1. Field Veterinarian 
3 Position

Key Responsibilities:-
  • Reporting to the Program Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for Livestock Management in the Project;
  • Assist the PM in training beneficiaries in intensive husbandry practices, fodder production and improved Milk and Meat hygiene
  • Frequently visit “producer” households, train and monitor them
  • Establishment of data base and collection of livestock productivity data from beneficiary herds.
  • Establishment of baseline database for market data (milk, meat, fodder among others).
  • Achieve Project Objectives and report on indicators.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills required
  • University degree in Veterinary Medicine.
  • Only those who graduated in 2009 or 2010 are eligible.
  • MUST be registered by KVB.
  • Interested in livestock related Rural Development Projects
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Interested in getting experience of working with Pastoral Communities.
  • Willingness to stay in remote areas
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Pastoral Communities added advantage
  • Ability to communicate in the Vernacular Languages of the project Area an added advantage.
2. Livestock Technician 
2 Position

Key Responsibilities:-
  • This position reports to the Program Manager
  • The incumbent will be responsible in assessing and maintaining the milk and meat market chain
  • Train beneficiaries in improved milk and meat hygiene practices and improved husbandry practices
  • Train beneficiaries in Animal Production production
  • Carry out monitoring of key activities in all three locations
  • Support Field Vet in the establishment of data base and collection of livestock productivity data from beneficiary herds.
  • Support Field Vet in establishment of baseline database for market data (milk, meat, fodder among others).
Qualifications, Experience & Skills required
  • University degree in Animal production or Food Science or other relevant field.
  • Only those who graduated in 2009 or 2010 are eligible.
  • Experience in the implementation of Rural Development Projects.
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Pastoral Communities added advantage
  • Ability to communicate in the Vernacular Languages of the project Area an added advantage.
