Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is an international NGO supporting health programs to improve the health of women and their families.

Jhpiego-Kenya works in close collaboration with both the Ministry of Medical Services and the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in the areas of HIV, Malaria, TB, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Reproductive Health and Family Planning.

We are currently recruiting a Deputy Director - Finance & Administration who is a team player, dedicated, highly motivated willing to work in a high pressure office requiring multi-tasking.

Deputy Director – Finance & Administration

Reporting to Director- Finance & Administration the Deputy Director will assist in the management of finance and administration function for Jhpiego’s Kenya Office.

S/he will implement and maintain financial, accounting and administrative systems required to assure the integrity and effective performance of Jhpiego/Kenya’s financial operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the effective utilization of Jhpiego’s financial management system to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting and ensure compliance with Jhpiego policies and legal requirements
  • Provide supervision, guidance and mentorship of staff and ensure team spirit within the finance team
  • Review policies, procedures and systems to ensure effective internal controls are in place and are adhered to
  • Provide financial, and accounting technical advice to all Jhpiego programs for effective program implementation
  • Review and advice on legal matters including leases, sub agreements and contracts
  • Administer sub-agreements, draft award documents, monitor of grants payments and the compliance to award terms and conditions
  • Assist program staff to develop work plans and annual budgets for programs and the office costs
  • Prepare and submit reports to donors as per the grant agreements and provide any information requested donor partners
  • Reviews and approve, expense reports and project advance expense reconciliation
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors and ensure prompt implementation of their recommendations
  • Represent Jhpiego in high level meetings with partners, professional bodies and conferences
  • Ensure procurement guidelines and systems are in place and adhered to
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports
Required Qualifications:
  • A Masters degree Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent
  • Qualified accountant with CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent
  • 10 years of post-qualification experience in financial management with at least 5 years in a senior position in a reputable NGO or development agency
  • Ability to communicate and to confidently engage with high ranking government and donor partners
  • Trustworthy and track record of impeccable integrity
  • Conversant with USAID financial guidelines/regulations
  • Computer literacy, particularly working knowledge of QuickBooks and MS office
Jhpiego is the lead partner of APHIAplus project in Zone 4, Eastern and Central provinces.

APHIAplus, is a five-year project award from USAID for comprehensive health service delivery project to improve the health of Kenyans in the Eastern and Central region of the country.

APHIAplus project will work closely with the Government of Kenya and a wide variety of nongovernment agencies to strengthen health care services throughout these provinces.

We are inviting applications from experienced Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) professionals with excellent technical skills to join a highly motivated multidisciplinary team in the APHIAplus Project.

Monitoring & Evaluation Advisor 
(3 Posts Embu, Nyeri & Machakos)

The M&E Advisor will be responsible all M&E activities in a respective region within the province. S/he will, lead M&E capacity building for the project partners, technical reporting, ensure data quality and build the capacity for the implementation of an effective M&E / HMIS system.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the Local Implementing Partners(LIP) & MOH staff in the region to create, test, and refine relevant M&E frameworks for effective collection, storage and use of service provision data
  • Work with program officers in producing and maintaining up-to-date PMP tables
  • Assist in gathering, summarizing and disseminating relevant technical updates on program planning, monitoring, evaluation and operations research within the project
  • Facilitate on-the-job M&E training for capacity development, especially in the area of use of data for decision making
  • Develop and maintain a system for archiving M&E guidelines, tools, data files, analysis files, reports and presentations for major activity undertaken
  • Lead the M&E responsibilities in the preparation of all project reports
Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in M&E, statistics, health or related field
  • Five years of work experience in leading monitoring and evaluation of health projects and/or HMIS work in Kenya
  • Experience working with MOH systems and personnel and in USAID-funded projects an asset
  • Excellent analytical, oral and report- writing skills
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint. MS Access and SPSS
Monitoring & Evaluation Data Manager
(1 post-Embu)

Reporting to the Senior M&E Advisor, the M&E Data Manager will be responsible for the M&E data management for the overall project.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage of data files of routine database(s) – KePMS and Jhpiego global information system and databases for Operation Research (OR) and other evaluation studies
  • Develop M&E System documentation and SOPs, maintain systematic data storage, filing and a report tracking system
  • Set up and manage routine and OR and evaluation database(s)
  • Lead the capacity building of M&E data management and develop feedback reports for MOHs and LIPs on data quality, completeness and use
  • Support LIP & MOH staff in the in project to create, test, and refine relevant M&E frameworks for effective collection, storage and use of service provision data
  • Produce and maintain up-to-date PMP tables

Monitoring & Evaluation Manager

The M&E Manager will be responsible for M&E capacity building for partners, data management, reporting and feedback to MOHs and LIPs on data quality, completeness and for supportive supervision activities.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the LIP & MOH staff in the Embu area to collect, store and use of service provision data
  • Share relevant data to the M &E Data Manager and provide feedback to LIPs and MOH staff on data quality
  • Assist in gathering technical updates on program planning, monitoring, evaluation and operations research
  • Facilitate on-the-job M&E training for capacity development
  • Archive M&E guidelines, tools, data files, analysis files, reports and presentations of the project as per guidelines
  • Assist in the preparation of ad hoc, monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports.

Monitoring & Evaluation Project Officer
(2 Post – Machakos)

The M&E project officer will assist in routine data collection, M&E capacity building in MOHs and LIPs, feedback to MOHs and LIPs on data quality, completeness and use, coordinate Data Quality Audits with MOHs and in all other M&E activities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with data collection from the LIP & MOH in respective regions
  • Forward project data to M &E manager and provide feedback to LIPs and MOH staff on data quality
  • Facilitate on-the-job M&E training for capacity development
  • Support LIP and MOH in archiving M&E guidelines, tools, data files, analysis files, reports and presentations for each major activity undertaken
Qualifications
  • A higher diploma or bachelors degree in health or related field
  • Two years of work experience in leading monitoring and evaluation of health projects and/or HMIS work in Kenya.
  • Experience working with MOH systems and personnel and in USAID-funded projects an asset
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS Office
