Diakonia Sweden seeks to recruit a Country Programme Manager to provide leadership in the design, coordination, implementation, development, and administration of its Kenya Programme. The position reports to the Deputy Regional Manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall leadership to the Kenya programme and oversee the implementation of the Kenya Country Strategy.
  • Build and maintain strong and productive relationships with donors, government agencies, civil society organisations and other relevant actors in Kenya.
  • Provide support, accompaniment and coordinate capacity building of partner organisations.
  • Oversee finance and administration of the programme including budgeting, utilisation of funds including allocation and disbursements to partners, financial reporting and audit. .
  • Manage resource mobilisation initiatives for the programme.
  • Provide leadership in identifying partners, reviewing proposals and managing sub-grant agreements.
  • Arrange and facilitate field missions in respect of the Kenya programme.
  • Arrange and facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of the programme.
  • Build an effective team and manage staff in the Kenya country programme.
  • Timely submission of quality programme reports.
  • Network with other like-minded organisations for purposes of lobbying and advocacy, developing consortiums as well as donor harmonisation & coordination.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Advanced degree in development or other social sciences
  • At least 5 years relevant experience in development work with civil society
  • Knowledge and experience in two or more of Diakonia’s thematic areas
  • Clear understanding of the Kenya context and experience in civil society strengthening
  • Proven knowledge and experience of Project cycle management
  • Experience in Participatory and Rights Based Approaches
  • Strong skills in monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • Experience in resource mobilisation including proposal development and managing donor relations
  • At least two years experience of directly managing staff
  • Finance & Administration including experience in managing budgets, reporting etc
Behavioural Competencies:
  • Effective leadership and managerial skills.
  • Effective communication skills and must be fluent in, oral and written, English and Kiswahili.
  • Be a team player and self driven with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good intercultural orientation (ability to relate and work with people of diverse backgrounds)
  • Excellent negotiation and networking skills
