Position: Business Development Manager

Responsible to: HOD, Sales & Marketing

Our Client is a marketing support services provider specializing in experiential marketing. They also undertake other outsourced marketing and sales activities such as merchandising, sales activations and distribution management.

Purpose of Role 
  • Business Generation, through achievement of set business targets, acquisition of new clients and preparation of business proposals in line with the Company standards and policies.
  • To lead the production process of all initiatives/ideas designed for or from the client.
  • Ensure that all projects run within the set Key performance Indicators.
  • Responsible for delivering the cost Management Agenda i.e. delivering effectively with great efficiency
  • To provide direction and implement client's requirements; follow up to ensure execution quality is up-to expected standards.
  • To spearhead innovations and fresh ideas that will grow client's brand performance.
  • Client service through timely feedback, holding of regular meetings with clients, building beneficial client relationships.
  • Quality controls - qualify and sign off execution plans (project charter), carry out regular field visits to review progress, and audit market executions.
  • Grow Market Share through innovation, brand building and differentiation.
  • Finance, budgeting and planning -participate in business planning and ensure consistent (profitable) costing of projects.
External Relations
  • Clients’ Sales Managers
  • Client’s Brand Managers and Trade Marketing team
  • High levels of respect/contact required with Trade partners as well as client.
  • Peers in FMCG industry, external industry data sources
Project Planning 
  • You will oversee the Breakdown of each project and identify tasks and resources required.
  • Based on the project, you will resource the project with the relevant team to deliver.
  • Sign off all project plans.
Project Resourcing

You will:
  • Ensure that the projects are well resourced.
  • Head the Recruitment & training processes.
  • Ensure database of entire project team and resources exists before kickoff.
  • Ensure all project support materials are in place and on time.
Project Implementation and Management 
  • Champion all projects implementation and management.
  • Oversee effective and efficient use of the resources.
Project Evaluation and Reports 
  • Identify gaps and challenges from each project and plan to resolve or mitigate them.
  • Lead the evaluation of each project at each stage.
  • A Bachelors Degree from an accredited University with an emphasis in Marketing, Sales, & Public Relations or any other relevant social science degree.
  • + 3 years proven business development record & pitching for new clients; proven experience in projects management within a commercial environment with bias to FMCG/Telecommunications;
  • Good understanding of the marketing and advertising industry in Kenya.
  • Ability and experience in working under pressure to create winning initiatives; must be able to negotiate for projects acquisition and possess excellent formal /public presentation skills.
  • Extensive experience in implementing joint working initiatives with internal customers/clients.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to generate new leads and capitalize effectively on currently existing ones; must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and contribute to team success.
Desired Skills 
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the project management
  • Working knowledge of Account management, Business analysis, Information management.
  • Strong Relationships Management.
  • Market research literacy.
  • Proven communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical ability
  • PC skills, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Understanding of analytical tools
  • People management skills.
  • Merchandising principles.
