Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) is a state corporation established by an Act of Parliament Cap 441 of 1979 of the laws of Kenya.

It was established to plan and coordinate the implementation of programmes and projects that transcend administrative boundaries of the districts in North Western part of Kenya.

The Authority seeks to invite applications from suitably qualified individuals for the following positions.

1. Senior Engineers (Water)

Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Manager Technical services and operations.
  • Responsible for project records, documentation acceptance to customers
  • Preparation of technical proposal reports and to establish documents’ controls
  • Designing of dams and other hydraulic systems including preparation of drawing and specifications, bills of quantities etc
  • Ensuring correct standards are maintained in the designs and implementation of projects mainly in water and general earthworks
  • Supervision of construction of water pans and other hydraulic projects undertaken directly or by contract
  • Planning, directing, controlling operation and maintenance of minor water works in the Authority’s area of operation
  • Implementing and managing infrastructure for environmental conservation, waste management, watershed conservation and to develop sustainable agricultural production systems.
  • Training of technical support staff and other junior officers working under him
  • Evaluation of sub-contractions performance
Qualifications & experience
  • Must be in possession of Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or its equivalent from recognized university
  • Have wide experience and professional competence in planning and design of water development projects, water pans and dams
  • Responsible for design construction and supervision of hydraulic systems and other civil works
  • At least 5 years working experience in Management level
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines
  • Must be above 30 years of age
2. Environmental Officers
2 Positions

Job Description
  • Overseeing the overall environmental compliance of all the Authority’s activities
  • Seeking and developing opportunities in regard to Environmental impact assessments Audits, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Occupational Health and Safety Assessments, Environmental certificate donor funded Environmental programmes and similar projects
  • Investigations/Assessments/Audits in accordance with the project brief
  • Ensuring that Authority services are executed in accordance and in compliance with environmental management requirements
  • Preparation of periodic reports for the section
  • Implementation of the law and policies of the Authority relating to the environment
  • Preparation of annual work programmes budgets and procurement plans for the section
Qualifications & experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from a recognized University
  • Be registered with NEMA
  • Have a working experience of 5 years
  • Must be above 30 years of age
3. Regional Managers 
4 Positions

To provide coordination and implementation of the Authority operations/activities, in its area of operation, KVDA has opened 4 regional offices in Lodwar, Kapenguria, Iten and Marigat.

Job Description
  • Reporting to the Chief Manager Technical Services and Operations
  • Provide overall regional coordination, administration and implementation of development projects within respective regions
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate with other departments the implementation of functions such as Security and transport – monitor vehicle usage, safety of facilities, HR, Finance, ICT and procurement within the respective region
  • Promote the image of the Authority in the region including provision of community services
  • Initiate and develop stakeholders’ networks in the region and comply with approved regional budget allocations
  • Monitor and conduct periodic staff performance appraisals in the region
  • Direct, support and monitor staff projects and assignments to ensure delivery of high quality performance
  • Account to the Head of Planning on the progress of the projects/programmes within the region and provide regular monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the management from time to time
Qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or Agriculture/Rural Development /Agricultural Economics or equivalent discipline from a recognized university
  • Post graduate diploma in project management or equivalent
  • Have five (5) years working experience
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent supervisory and administrative skills
  • Must be above 30 years of age
4. Surveyors 
2 Positions

Job Description
  • Designing, planning and designing all survey works for the Authority
  • Organizing, controlling and coordinating activities in Survey division
  • Planning and designing system computation, storage and retrieval of survey data
  • Liaising with parties on survey issues
  • Training and developing staff working under him/her
Qualifications and experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in surveying and photogrammetry or diploma in land surveying or equivalent qualification from a recognized University
  • Have a thorough understanding of National Goals, policies and Development Objectives and the ability to translate them into land surveying policies and programmes
  • Must be above 30 years of age
5. Fisheries Officer

Job description
  • Will be in charge of the fisheries division
  • Direct and control all fisheries activities in the Authority
  • Formulate and enforce fisheries management measures
  • Prevent and control pollution of living aquatic resources
  • Dissemination of research information
Qualifications & Experience
  • Have at least a Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized university in any of the following fields: Fisheries and aquatic Sciences
  • Have worked in a relevant field for at least 5 years
  • Must be above 30 years of age
6. Geologist

Job Description
  • Long term planning and evaluation and preparation of geological programmes
  • Coordination of exploration and pre-investment studies with other bodies involved in geological activities
  • Supervision of geological field projects and controls of budgets
  • Interpretation of geological policies pertaining the Authority
  • Training of staff working under him
  • Maintaining a data bank for all the Authority’s geological activities

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology from a recognized University
  • Have worked for at least 5 years in the same field
  • Must be above 30 years of age
7. Range Officer

Job Description
  • Responsible for Range Management, Beekeeping, Fisheries and Animal Production in the Authority
  • Execute duties in development and promotion of livestock
  • Interpretation of marketing data and livestock statistics for long term planning and control of finance
  • Responsible for training and extension work
  • Write proposals in relation to Livestock, Fisheries in liaison with the Chief Managers, Planning, Development and Research
  • Responsible for animal health
Qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Range and Livestock Management or its equivalent from a recognized University
  • Post graduate Diploma in Range Management and Animal health
  • Must have worked in the same field for at least 5 years
  • Must be above 30 years of age
8. Tourism Officer

Job Description
  • Identification and documentation of tourist attraction sites in the Authority’s area of jurisdiction
  • Marketing and Promotion of the Authority as a preferred tourism destination
  • Coordination of tourism development activities in line with tourism area plan for the Authority
  • Advising the Managing Director on all matters to do with tourism
  • Working closely with government and other agencies responsible for tourism development
  • Developing tourism proposals for funding
  • Developing tourism strategic plans for the Authority
  • Developing tourism circuits within the Authority’s area of jurisdiction
  • Overseeing the management of the existing accommodation facilities run by the Authority
Qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Economics or Marketing from a recognized University
  • Must have worked in the same field for at least 5 years
  • Must be above 30 years of age
9. Personnel Officer

  • Processing leave applications
  • Processing of retirement benefits, NSSF and NHIF records/claims
Qualifications and experience
  • A Bachelors Degree in social sciences from a recognized university
  • A post graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management
  • Must be computer literate
  • At least five (5) years experience in the same field
  • Must be above 30 years of age
