Technical Specialist, Child Health will provide strategy, technical assistance, and implementation oversight for project's activities related to improving IMCI and other child health interventions, as part of a USAID-funded project to improve capacity to properly diagnose, manage, and treat cases of pediatric Severe Febrile Illness. Since malaria is leading cause of, and is the main diagnosis for Severe Febrile Illness, the Technical Specialist will work to build capacity for child health providers so that they are able to properly diagnose other causes of severe febrile illness and increase their abilities in case management of other illnesses related to severe febrile illness.

Activities to be completed by the Technical Specialist will include collaborating with Tanzania's Pediatric Health Initiative (PHI) with regards to Severe Febrile Illness, expanding medical care for vulnerable children, increasing access to essential drugs related to non-malarial causes of severe febrile illness, and improving of understanding and guidance regarding IMCI and severe febrile illness.
Since this project will focus on the Lake Zone of Tanzania, the Technical Specialist will be based at the project's office in this region. Thereby, the Technical Specialist will need to successfully collaborate with NGOs, FBOs, Donor agency offices, health offices, and health facilities in the Lake Zone, along with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW), USAID-Tanzania and other organizations working on child health issues.
Master Degree with 8-10 years of experience, or MD/PhD with 5 years of experience in public health or related field.

Strong knowledge of pediatric health issues particularly, pneumonia, diarrheal diseases, and acute respiratory illneses within the Tanzania health system context, including current case management of these health issues.

Experience with USAID and donor projects regarding child health, is highly desirable

Knowledge of health commodity supply chain operations in Tanzania is a plus
