Roving Finance Manager - Save the Children UK, Kenya Programme Jobs

Over the past 2 years, the Kenya Programme has grown in size and reach and currently works in North Eastern Province with Area Offices in Dadaab, Wajir, Habaswein, Eldoret and El Wak.

Job Purpose:

The postholder will implement Save the Children UK, Kenya Programme’s financial policies and provide finance support to Area Managers, Budget holders, Finance staff and Partners in all field locations within the Kenya programme.
 

He/she will also work alongside the Compliance Officer to monitor and promote compliance with organization’s policies and procedures, implementation of internal and external audit requirements.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Assist Area Managers and field finance officers in ensuring smooth implementation and updating of robust and adequate financial systems and procedures in the Area offices.
  • Provide technical support and training to field finance staff, making sure that all offices are following Save the Children UK financial policies and procedures and support in the roll out of new initiatives on grants and financial management systems in the field offices.
  • Support and train Budget Holders with analysis of monthly BVAs, preparing project forecasts and alongside the Grants Manager support with developing new proposal budgets.
  • Provide support to Field Finance Officers on completion and maintenance of office master budgets.
  • Verify the monthly expenditure for field offices before they are processed in SUN, and address any concerns with the Area Managers
  • Cover any field or Nairobi based finance staffing gaps (up to and including Officer Level) on an interim basis whilst the role is being recruited.
  • Working with the Compliance Officer, support where applicable the promotion and monitoring of donor compliance.
  • In conjunction with the Field Finance Officers and Grants Manager, take the lead in providing support and training to partner agencies.
  • Ensure that Save the Children UK procedures and policies are standard across all field locations, suggesting amendments / improvements to current practice to the Finance Director.
  • To assist in set up of new field offices and provide financial support to any emergency response within Kenya.
Essential Requirements: 
  • A degree in finance with professional qualifications in Accounting, at least CPA II section finalist or ACCA part II or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three year’s INGO experience in financial management; payroll, purchase ledger, cash / bank management.
  • Practical experience of having worked in various field locations in Kenya.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a team, including cultural sensitivity, assertiveness and negotiating skills.
  • Strong computer skills including experience of using and administering Accounting packages eg. SUN systems
  • Ability and willingness to work under pressure as part of a professional team
  • Willingness to spend the majority of time travelling around field offices within Kenya.
  • Extensive knowledge of Donor rules and regulations, Donor portfolio include DFID, OFDA, ECHO and EC.
