Job Vacancy: Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist

The Water and Sanitation Program (www.wsp.org) is a multi-donor partnership administered by the World Bank to support poor people in obtaining affordable, safe, and sustainable access to water and sanitation services. WSP operates in Africa, East Asia, Latin America, and South Asia. The WSP Africa regional office is based in Nairobi.
WSP-Africa seeks to recruit a Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist to be based at the World Bank Office in Kinshasa. WSP-AF is currently seeking to appoint a leading water and sanitation professional, with extensive experience to lead WSP-AF’s work program aimed at increasing sustained access to WSS services by the poor in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The DRC work program will focus on small towns, rural water supply and sanitation, services to the urban poor, as well as monitoring.
The Senior Specialist will also support development and implementation of the World Bank’s portfolio in urban WSS.
The post will require working closely with the leading sector institutions in the country and playing a significant role in sector coordination support and the implementation of country strategies to achieve impact. This position reports to the WSP-AF Principal Regional Team Leader (PRTL) and requires close collaboration with in-country World Bank AFTUW Task Team Leaders, the key country counterparts.
The successful candidate will have:
·         8 years of relevant professional experience in country development work, specifically in the water supply and sanitation sector;
·         a Masters or higher-level degree(s) in a relevant discipline (e.g. engineering, social science, economics, institutional development, public health or other field relevant to WSS);
·         Extensive knowledge of WSS development, utility/institutional reform and public private partnerships, sector coordination and policy dialogue, and pro-poor strategy and program development;
·         proven ability both in delivering on own-managed work, dealing sensitively with others in a multi-cultural context;
·         have excellent written and verbal communications skills and be able to support policy dialogue with sector leaders; and be a strong team player, who is self-motivated.
·         Fluent in French and English.
