CARE International in Kenya is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of a Assistant Officer - Plant Mechanic.
The position is based in the CARE Kenya, Dadaab Office.
Job summary:
The Plant mechanic is responsible for the mechanical maintenance of all bore-hole power generators, electrical pumps both submersible and surface and associated equipment.
Together with Plant Electrician he/she will ensure that all such equipment is serviced as per the monthly schedule and repaired in the event of any breakdown.
He/she will undertake major overhauls as and when need arises.
Responsibilities and tasks:
1. Maintenance and servicing of gensets
The position is based in the CARE Kenya, Dadaab Office.
Job summary:

Responsibilities and tasks:
1. Maintenance and servicing of gensets
- Service and repair engines and alternators on routine basis.
- Dismantle, Assemble, and overhaul engines as and when required,
- Monitor and evaluate systems performance to preempt faults, or breakdowns.
- Repair and service submersible and surface pumps.
2. Borehole recovery
- Retrieve, assemble, repair and (re) install submersible pumps.
- Borehole test pumping
- Monitoring yield trends and behavior of boreholes and suggesting relevant remedial measures where necessary.
3. Supervision
- Guide and mentor the Water supply operator and borehole attendants in their day to day activities.
- Supervises camp pump attendants and B/HS watchmen
4. Associated duties and responsibilities
- To participate in the training, coaching and mentoring Water supply operators or any other assigned by Workshop Foreman.
- To maintain and improve links in all areas with the MSU Workshop to include sharing of equipment, plant and training facilities.
Working conditions
- As stated in the terms of contract and the CARE Kenya HR manual
- This is an unaccompanied posting
- For security reasons, travel within Dadaab camps is restricted and inter camp movements are by scheduled convoys escorted by police. Adhere to convoy rules.
- Will reside within CARE compound(s) while executing official duties and shall obey and adhere to residential compound regulations.

Qualifications:
- Education: Plant mechanic Grade I trade certificate.
- Experience: At least 3-years hands on experience
- Certificate: a certified plant mechanic
- Competencies: Hard working, innovative and works long hours
