African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) Jobs in Kenya

The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) was established in 1988 as a public not-for-profit organization devoted to the advancement of economic policy research and training in Africa.

The Consortium’s mandate and strategic intent is built on the basis that sustained development in sub-Saharan Africa requires well-trained, locally based professional economists. AERC agitates the provision of capacity building in economic policy in Francophone and Anglophone African countries through provision of support in the areas of policy research and training.

AERC seeks to recruit qualified and experienced economists and other professionals to support its capacity building initiative in one of its key partner government ministry in Kenya.

The overall responsibility of the economists and other professionals to be recruited is to provide analytical support to policy research, policy analysis and formulation and economic management covering the following areas:

  1. Macroeconomic and microeconomic analysis:- This will entail Sectoral Analysis; Macroeconomic Policy Analysis and Modelling; and Financial Analysis.
  2. Fiscal Policy Analysis, including, Project Analysis; Tax Policy Analysis; and Budget Analysis.
  3. Inter-Governmental Fiscal Analysis and Reforms.
The AERC, therefore, seeks to recruit economists and other professionals at four levels as indicated below.

The officers to be recruited must have the following minimum qualifications:

(i) 10 Graduate Trainees – The ideal candidates must possess a minimum of Upper Second Class Honours degree in Economics, Commerce, Mathematics/Statistics, Agriculture, Engineering, ICT and Law. Preference will be given to those with first Class Honours degree.

(ii) 10 Assistant Researcher/Policy Analysts – The ideal candidates must have a minimum of MA/MSC in Economics, International Development, Political Science, Law, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Accounting; Mathematics, Statistics, ICT and Engineering.

(iii) 7 Researcher/Policy Analysts – The ideal candidates must possess a minimum MA/MSC in Economics, International Development, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Accounting; Mathematics, Statistics, ICT, Law and Engineering and at least five years relevant professional experience in research and policy analysis.

The successful candidates will be expected to publish at least one research paper in the respective area of work per year.

(iv) 5 Senior Policy Analysts – The ideal candidates must possess a minimum of MA/MSC in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Accounting Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Political Science, ICT or PhD in Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, and Finance with at least 10 years relevant practical research and policy analysis experience covering macroeconomic, financial, infrastructure/transportation, rural/agriculture development, public finance (expenditure/taxation), environment and legal and institutional development.

The successful candidate will be required to publish at least one research paper in the respective area of work per year.
