Opportunity Kenya IT Manager Vacancy

Opportunity Kenya Ltd is a microfinance institution with operations in Nairobi. Western, Nyanza and Rift Valley provinces of Kenya, and is seeking qualified applicants for the following position:

IT Manager

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the IT Manager will be responsible for the following:

Main Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the procurement, installation and administration of the institution equipment at the head office and branches
  • Coordinate and oversee work of IT related consultants Interface with Opportunity International, Denver IT Center
  • Maintain up to date a register of all the equipment, codes, location as well as software licenses

  • Attend to hardware problems in a timely manner to maintain minimum disruption of business.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain all computer and computer related equipment on the Opportunity Kenya premises.
  • Working hand in hand with IT Team to identify the need for and procure new equipment and introduce new technology with the purpose of improving the business efficiency and growth
  • Ensure that the routine maintenance on all computer and computer related equipment is being done
  • Responsible for all communications within the head office, branches and satellite branches (agencies, field offices, mobile branches) and external support providers
  • Ensure the entire configuration of the LAN, WAN and VPN connections, including the networks equipment (routers, switches etc) is documented properly at all times
  • Troubleshoot and maintain all networks and interfaces within Ol Kenya premises.
  • Maintain reliable and high-quality Local Area Network (LAN) within all Ol Kenya premises
  • Ensure and maintain the security and integrity of Opportunity Kenya systems and data in terms of:
  1. Intrusions
  2. Viruses
  3. Internal systems abuse
  • Ensure and maintain the internet connectivity and access for Opportunity Kenya premises as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain the internal and external websites for Opportunity Kenya
  • Monitor and control issues of email security.
  • Ensure the power system is adequate in all Opportunity Kenya premises
  • Ensure voice equipment (PABX, connection) are functioning at all times
  • Ensure all the policies for all Ol Kenya networks are enforced (implemented) in accordance with the Opportunity International standards
  • Ensure there is a continuity plan (including a disaster recovery plan) for all the networks and equipment
  • A team worker and part of the IT team in upholding the core values of Opportunity Kenya
  • Provide other end user support and training where necessary
  • Expands knowledge and capabilities to continually add value and progress within the Opportunity Kenya IT Team.
  • Maintains a superior knowledge of IT and financial industry status and trends
Experience and Qualification
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, relevant Engineering or any relevant field or business related subject from a reputable university
  • Knowledge of LAN, WAN Architecture
  • Familiar with software programming
  • Knowledge of Business Administration and Accounting
  • 3-5 years experience with hardware component of computer, systems networking: LAN, WAN, VPN in a financial institution.
  • Practical experience in hardware repair, maintenance and networking.
  • Ability to manipulate and execute Windows 2000, 2003, Linux and other operating systems.
  • Ability to utilize and troubleshoot Microsoft Office products, LAN technology, dialup and wide area networks, system utilities and vendor supplied products.
  • Knowledge of CISCO technology. Microsoft networking standards, and Linux
  • Knowledge and skills in contract negotiations with the IT providers; maintain good relationship with quality providers
  • Knowledge in internet and e-mail configuration and support
  • Ability to train end users at different levels of experience
  • Experienced in Networking including installation, administration and troubleshooting
  • Hands on experience in Hardware Maintenance
  • Good working knowledge of distributed systems and client / server technology
