International NGO Project Director

An international NGO, implementing comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment programs to facilitate the Kenya Ministries of Medical Services and Public Health to control the spread of HIV and rapidly scale up HIV services with primary goal of supporting the scale-up of HIV prevention, care, and treatment activities, institute continuous quality improvement methods as well as the M&E infrastructure necessary to support these services, within designated health care facilities in Nairobi is seeking suitably qualified Kenyans able to fill the above position.

The Project Director will report to Country Director.

Purpose of Position

This position will be responsible for planning, monitoring and supervision of program activities undertaken by the grant.

Core functions will include; budget development and utilization monitoring, work plan development, grant performance tracking and reporting.

Specific Responsibilities:
The Program Director will be responsible for:
  • Represent the organization at various meetings, with the donor agency, senior government officials and other partners in the geographical area of operation.
  • Provide direct technical interventions to improve the various health systems with which the various projects are working.
  • Provide the overall management and strategic vision for the project, developing and updating annual work plans, promoting synergies where possible, and ensuring that project-specific deliverables and contract-specific terms are met.
  • Update strategies, work plans and budgets as requested by the USG and Project Headquarters.
  • Identify capacity gaps in collaboration with the senior technical advisor and arrange for appropriate training of field office staff to adequately equip them with the skills and knowledge required to accomplish their responsibilities.
  • Oversee the implementation of an indicator-based performance monitoring plan that encompasses both patient clinical outcomes and other program.
  • Responsible for the development of short-term operational plans to ensure that the finances and cash flow are adequate to complete required work.
  • Provide Leadership, mentoring, and motivation of the in-country team by identifying opportunities and providing for these to ensure continuous technical development of project staff.
  • Serve as a member of the country leadership team.
  • Work closely with the senior technical advisor to design and implement technical assistance activities aimed at improving clinical outcomes as service provision sites.
  • Work closely with the Director for Finance and Administration to develop and monitor appropriate budgets to support technical activities.
  • Stay abreast of global organizational initiatives that could support the programs objectives in Kenya. Maximize the use of available resources of the project.
  • Prepare quarterly, annual and other periodic programmatic reports for donor agencies.
  • Work with the senior technical advisor to develop scopes of work for the program as well as for sub grantees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Country Director.
Qualifications
  • MBChB, BPharm - MPH, MMed, MSc project management will be an added advantage.
  • Experience working with senior government officials.
  • Strong representational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English.
  • Ability to participate in strategy development, manage implementation of projects and work independently.
  • Proficiency in common computer packages (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) relevant to the work.
  • Team player.
  • Experience in program Management Supervisory experience required.
  • Previous attendance at program management training is an added advantage.
  • Previous work experience with USAID-funded projects desirable.
  • Previous experience working with the Government of Kenya is desirable.
