Nutrition Information Systems Officer, NOB

Purpose of the Post:
 Under the guidance of the Nutrition Systems Specialist, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the government to strengthen nutrition information systems in Kenya.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in the development of a system and coordination of nutrition related information to promote centralization of nutrition information and multi-sectorial information analysis.

  2. Support the Division of Nutrition to convene nutrition information working group meetings with key stakeholders, draft minutes and follow-up on the action points. This will include a follow-up of NIWG strategies, work plans and deliverables based on the NIWG TOR.
  3. Coordinate the review of the national guidelines for conducting nutrition surveys based on the current developments and country specific concerns in nutrition assessments.
  4. Dissemination of information coming out of the data collated and analyzed in various national and sub-national nutrition, health and related forum.
  5. Oversee management and continuous improvement of nutrition website at the Division of Nutrition. Key role will include development and ensuring the running of web-based database and network, updating the website with relevant fresh information and managing the website aesthetics.
  6. Coordinate with the Information Working Group of the NTF in the production of monthly nutrition updates to nutrition and health stakeholders.
  7. Oversee the quality, production and dissemination of a range of nutrition information products.
  8. Coordinate the review of the nutrition reporting tools (CHANIS, IMAM, Vitamin A, Other micronutrients and IYCF) and lobby and ensure inclusion of key indicators into the HMIS and CHIS.
Required Qualifications:
  • Advance Degree in nutrition, public health, biostatistics or similar relevant technical field.
  • Excellent Knowledge of database design and management is a requirement, and practical knowledge of statistical analytical soft wares (Ms-Excel, MS-Access, EPI-lnfo, SPSS) is an advantage.
Experience: At least 4 to 6 years professional experience in information management for nutrition programmes or closely related technical areas.

Language:
 Fluency in English and Kiswahili.

  • Ability to take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage databases and translate large amounts of information/data into succinct findings and conclusions for program management and policy advocacy.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Attention to details.
