The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMESTEA) is a Government Institution under the Ministry of Education which offers In-Service Education and Training (INSET) for Mathematics and Science Teachers and is mandated to come up with innovations for effective teaching of mathematics, science and technology.
Its activities are spread throughout Sub-Sahara Africa.
Requirement for Appointment
For appointment to the Grade of Senior Principal Graduate Teacher, one must:-

1.    Be Kenyan citizen
2.    Be a serving teacher in any of the Public Institutions currently being staffed by the TSC
3.    Be at Job Group ‘P’ for at least three (3) years
4.    Be 55 years of age or below with a high degree of integrity
5.    Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Science/Mathematics) from a recognized university; or BSc with PGDE
6.    Have relevant masters degree from a recognized institution however, masters degree in Science/Mathematics will be an added advantage
7.    Have  demonstrated  a  high  degree of professional competence  and administrative capability  in the management of INSET Programmes and innovations in effective teaching
8.    Have proven ability in improving and maintaining high teaching and learning standards in Sciences and Mathematics,
9.    Have demonstrated organizational ability in an educational institution and be an all-round education leader familiar with the national education system
10.  Be conversant with legal provisions in education, knowledge of curricular development and implementation, knowledge of current trends, policies and developments in the education sector
11.  Have consistently met set performance targets
12.  Show evidence of research and publication in areas of specialization, and be able to interpret and evaluate research findings
13.  Should be proficient in use of computer as a management tool
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy Director will be responsible to the Director.
The main duties and responsibilities will include:-
  • Over seeing preparation and implementation of department operational plans
  • Planning programmes and events in consultations with the Director
  • Monitoring and Evaluating training activities and preparing quality and annual reports in consultation with the Director
  • Conducting training in the subject area of specialization
  • Coordinating all INSET activities, quality control and training programmes on behalf of the Director
  • Any other relevant duties assigned by the Centre Director
