Save the Children Regional Food Security and Livelihoods Advisor Job Vacancy

Save the Children is the world’s leading independent child rights organisation. We’re outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection and we’re determined to change this.

As part of our Save the Children’s Global Campaign EVERYONE, which aims to reduce child mortality and achieve MDG 4 by 2015, our work is at the forefront of innovation around improving the health and nutrition of mothers and helping newborn babies survive and looking at how livelihoods links to child and maternal child nutrition.

Save the Children has a global reputation for innovative and effective programming as well as cutting edge policy development and advocacy related to both food security and nutrition.

As the Regional Food Security & Livelihoods Adviser you will play a strategic role in influencing and shaping the growth of the Hunger Reduction agenda in East & Southern Africa, in an advisory role shaping the design and implementation of an innovative and expanding livelihood programme portfolio.

For this role, you’ll need to have substantial operational experience in food security and livelihood programming, alongside a qualification in related subject.

Your knowledge of food security and livelihoods in both development and emergency contexts, and exceptional ability to influence in an advisory capacity will ensure good quality implementation for beneficiaries and donors, organisational learning and contribution to broader policy analysis.

The role will require the ability to travel at short notice, occasionally to remote and insecure locations, for up to 40% of work time. The ability to speak French, Swahili, Somali or Arabic is preferred but not essential, as is experience working within the East Africa region.
