Oxfam Disaster Risk Reduction Project Manager Job in Nairobi Kenya

Decades of neglect and under-development have affected the ability of pastoralists and other communities living in Kenya’s arid lands to secure their livelihoods.

The Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASAL) programme of Oxfam works in Wajir and Turkana districts in a multifaceted manner, working with communities, the private sector, civil society and the government to mitigate and manage the shocks that are so prevalent in the area.

To improve the resilience of communities, Oxfam GB and its local partners have developed a project, which includes risk mapping, development of community drought management plans, educational activities as well as basic infrastructural work in Turkana and Wajir.

We are looking for a qualified and dynamic individual to manage the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Project.

About the role

You will ensure the project is implemented in line with the country programme strategy.

You will develop and manage partnership relations with implementing partners as well as manage the development of project strategy, plans and service agreements between Oxfam GB, implementing partners and the donor within the overall programme framework.

You will develop a solid understanding of DRR specifically Drought Management amongst partners and Oxfam staff encouraging unique, innovative and experimental solutions to complex problems using judgement to manage risks to the programme success.

You will manage project learning processes and produce relevant documentation ensuring that the project delivers and meets the requirements on monitoring, reporting, accountability and other programme quality standards.

What we are looking for

You will have an understanding and substantial experience of programming in humanitarian and/or development sector in particularly on disaster risk reduction, drought management or climate change adaptation.

You will have a degree in Social Sciences or other development related field with proven record of designing, managing and reporting on complex programmes across dispersed locations and various implementing partners.

You will have the ability to develop and manage complex relationships and teams across a wide variety of actors, technical areas and cultures, towards meeting targets on time and within budget.

Experience with managing EC/ECHO funded proposals coupled with an understanding of research methodologies and Monitoring Evaluation and Learning is desirable.

Both written and spoken English skills are essential while knowledge of local language (Ng’aturkana or Somali) will be an added advantage.
