Job Title: Mechanical Workshop Supervisor
Department: Workshop
Salary: Dependent on experience.
Reports to: Workshop and Maintaince Manager
Duration of Employment: The appointment is for one year in the first instance, with extension contingent on the expected successful bid for new contracts in the near future.
Starting Date: The post will commence as soon as possible.
Summary of Job Function:
The workshop supervisor is responsible for the day to day safe and efficient running of the mechanical workshop. The manager is responsible for budgets for the purchase of materials, fixings and fastenings and machine tools to ensure the smooth progression of trucks through the workshop.
Daily attendance and sickness records have to be kept alongside individual records of what work is carried out and on which trucks. This is for truck costing purposes and for traceability of components in case of problems arising. Traceability is a vital component activity both at material and component level and the workshop manager is responsible for maintaining a database of everything purchased, work done and by whom in collaboration with the stores. The workshop supervisor is responsible for the quality of the work carried out and performs incoming and outgoing inspection on all parts and assemblies or delegates that work. In a potentially very dangerous working environment the manager is responsible maintaining safe working practices. The workshop is the first point of contact for advice on best practices and methods, for inside and outside of the workshop.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and monitoring work within the workshop, supervising the mechanics
Undertaking modifications and assembly jobs during busy periods
Report on workloads, participating in project reviews and giving advice to the workshop and
General administration for personnel and record keeping 10%
Quality control
Special Working Conditions
• The post holder will have to work out of hours occasionally
• The post holder will have to be a part of the company’s emergency and rescue team.
• The post holder will may be responsible for the health and safety of mechanics
Person Specification
Knowledge & Skills
Essential: A thorough understanding of and experience with machining and fitting techniques.
A thorough understanding and experience with specialized coatings, painting and plating.
Essential: Good interpersonal and organizational skills able to motivate people.
Desirable: Proven record of ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines.
Essential: Able to make critical decisions under pressure, while maintaining the safety and well
Being of the staff he is responsible for.
Qualifications
Essential: Diploma in automotive engineering.
Previous Experience
Essential: Worked in a busy mechanical workshop with special emphasis on Actros, Atego and Axox trucks for at least 5 years.
