Project/Proposal Summary:

The goal of the 3 year Yes Youth Can! APS is to empower Kenyan youth by developing leadership and organizations, promoting inter-ethnic understanding, facilitating innovation, providing technical assistance, and channeling resources to at-risk youth in key provinces to improve competitiveness.

Position Summary:
 

MSI is seeking a Monitoring and Evaluation/Outreach Specialist for the 3 year program based in Nairobi Kenya. The Specialist’s responsibilities are split between M&E (75%) and Outreach (25%). The Specialist will be in charge of designing and implementing the M&E plan and all M&E activities for the program as well as develop youth outreach and marketing strategies and campaigns.

This is a local position. Only candidates with Kenyan citizenship will be considered.**

Responsibilities:
 

M&E Responsibilities (75%):

  • In coordination with project leadership, design and implement the M&E plan;
  • Develop performance indicators and performance monitoring plans, design data collection methods and oversee data quality assurance;
  • Write and/or contribute to project reports to the donor and MSI headquarters;
  • Serve as a technical specialist in Monitoring and Evaluation and build the capacity of local partner organizations in M&E;
  • Provide tools, training and support to monitor implementation of grantees;
  • Contribute to other project components upon request of the project leadership.
Outreach Responsibilities (25%)
  • In coordination with project leadership, develop youth outreach strategies to facilitate the active and sustained participation of marginalized urban youth;
  • Design and deliver seminars and orientations to urban youth;
  • Assist in the creation and execution of a marketing campaign;
  • Attend community events and public sector meetings to promote the promote the program;
  • Reach out to private sector companies to open-up spaces for program youth to conduct internships, apprenticeships and gain jobs.
Qualifications: 
  • Degree in sociology, international development, statistics or related field;
  • Demonstrated experience (3 years) in monitoring and evaluation for internationally funded programs (USAID preferred);
  • Experience in urban youth development in Kenya (Nairobi experience preferred);
  • Experience in community development and/or outreach to marginalized populations;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working in Mathare and Mukuru kwa Njenga 'blocks' in Nairobi.
