The Organization

Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), is the National Standards Body established under the Standards Act, Cap 496 of the Laws of Kenya.

KEBS mandate is to safeguard the reputation of Kenya’s products and services as well as the imports brought into the country by ensuñng the quality, reliability and reputation of these products and services, facilitating industrial efficiency and development in order to improve public and industrial welfare.

KEBS vision is to be a global leader in standards based solutions that deliver quality and confidence.

In order to ensure that KEBS delivers on its mandate, we now seek to recruit a high calibre, results oriented and self driven professional who will be employed by KEBS to provide leadership and strategic direction in the capacity of Managing Director.

The Role
Reporting to the National Standards Council, the Managing Director will bear the ultimate responsibility of safeguarding the reputation of Kenya’s products and services as well as the quality of imports brought into the country.

S/he will be responsible for directing and managing KEBS’ projects, activities, technical and support staff and resources in order to deliver the organisation’s strategic plan and to meet the country’s standardization, quality assurance, metrology and testing needs for facilitation of trade and enhancement of the National Quality Infrastructure.

Direct and coordinate the company’s operations and overall administration so as to ensure that the various units of the company operate in conformity with overall performance targets.

Develop and maintain a robust and conducive work environment for attracting, retaining and motivating employees.

S/he will foster a culture of quality and performance that promotes high standards of ethical practices, good corporate citizenship as well as health and safety.

S/he will also inculcate a results-based management culture to improve performance and accountability for all the staff and top leadership in the organization.

The Person

The Managing Director will possess an undergraduate degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Electronic or Chemical) or a Bachelor degree in Science (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Food Technology), Commerce or Law from a recognized university.

A Masters degree in Business Administration, Science and/or, PhD degree in a related field from a recognized university or a relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage.

S/he will have a minimum of 10 years management experience, 5 years of which should have been at senior management level.

S/he should have excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills. Be energetic, self driven person of impeccable integrity and honesty. Good knowledge of ethics, governance and operations of boards of directors and management teams will be desirable.

We are looking for a dynamic and visionary leader, 35-57 years old with demonstrated skills and experience in managing diverse teams including technical specialists.

S/he will possess a demonstrated track record of integrity and professionalism as well as delivering significant strategic initiatives in a complex environment.
