Summary: The post holder will participate in the setting up and running of an Insectary, ELISA analysis and recording of Laboratory procedures and processes to meet various objectives in the study of malaria vectors.
Section Description: The Entomology Research section deals in the biology of disease vectors, their ecology and control. Research involvement includes studies on field manipulations of mosquito larval habitats, habitats mapping, and rearing large colony of Anopheles mosquitoes in an insectary for various studies. Rotation to other sections of the Entomology laboratory is also possible.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of Project co-ordinator performs routine and basic Laboratory procedures involving manual techniques or use of Laboratory instrument.
  • Standardizes, Calibrates, performs preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting on Laboratory equipment and instrument.
  • Participates in various QAQC, EQA, IQC and regulatory agency activities within the assigned section, including developing and documenting QC monitors,
  • Communicates with Scientists, senior technologist, field workers and public concerning Laboratory results, procedures and technology.
Skills and Competence:
  • Must have Ordinary Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Knowledge of Entomological Laboratory Practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of Laboratory safety and infectious control procedures and practices including standard precautions, biological safety and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Carefully follow written SOPs and Safety Regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy is an advantage
  • Experience in Mosquito colony rearing and maintenance (Insectary) is an added advantage
