About the Safe Water Programme (SWP)
IPA’s Safe Water Programme is working to increase global use of the Chlorine Dispenser – a highly cost – effective point - of -collection water treatment technology developed by the Project.

The Chlorine Dispenser has proven to achieve high rates of usage among communities and significantly reduce waterborne disease.

The Project has received a very strong interest in this promising new technology for a number of partners including several ministries in the government of Kenya.

RWP is expanding its field activities to pilot Chlorine Dispensers in a variety of contexts and in partnership with other institutions. Informed by these pilots, the project team then plans to implement chlorine dispensers on a large scale. 

Responsibilities, Duties and Tasks

The Field Associate (s) will work with the SWP Field Management team.

The responsibilities for this position are as follows:

Field Data collection: This involves surveying and monitoring water sites locations, compile and monitor water sources user lists, collect water samples for tests from springs, wells and individual households within the communities, Questionnaire administrations in schools & communities, and more so organize, clean and enter field Data.

Lead training – train relevant personnel for Partners that are engaged in the SWP activities:

The FA (s) has a key responsibility to train different people on how the Chlorine dispenser works as well as the general information on the Safe Water Programme.

The audience to be trained will vary from one project to another, for this depends on who the partners are and the model used in the implementing the project.

Represent the project and IPA: 

The FA (s) has to ensure that the SWP and IPA are well represented both with the public and the partners we work with.

The FA is expected to maintain good relations with our local partners, provincial administration and local communities that we interact with. Efficient and effective communication is important to enhance good feedback and dissemination of relevant information to various groups.

Monitoring and Evaluation: The FA will be expected to monitor and evaluate field activities related to the project. These will include and are not limited to: - monitoring activities of water committee at community level, conducting post installation surveys, do spot checks, conduct focus groups and writing a summary report at the end of the project.

Management expectations from the FA: 

The FA is expected to maintain high standards of professional integrity in all activities, be proactive & have the ability to think and make rational decisions quickly in different situations, meet and complete schedules, assignments and tasks on time, a team player and show initiative in improving ones work environment.

Work duration: 

Successful applicants will initially be hired for one month on casual basis. Those who demonstrate consistent exceptional abilities and work performance will be considered for a contract, with the same or another project.

Qualifications

Formal qualifications, experience and skills
  • The candidate is required to have obtained a college diploma or university degree, preferably in management, economics, education, development studies, social sciences, health, or related fields and a strong academic record
  • It is preferred that the applicant have at least one to two years of relevant experience in a high performance organization
  • Exceptional organizational skills, demonstrated ability to work an extra mile
  • Strong written and spoken English & Kiswahili,
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer literacy especially with Microsoft word and Excel preferred
