For over 60 years, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital has provided high standards of paedriatic health care in East and Central Africa exclusively to children from birth to 21 years of age. We have a network of outpatient units in Nairobi with the main campus located in Muthaiga.

Due to the recent expansion of our services, the hospital wishes to recruit dynamic and committed individuals to the following positions:
Nutritionist
Ref: 001/08/2010
2 Positions
Reporting to the Head Clinician, the nutritionist is responsible for conducting nutritional assessments, providing nutrition counseling, preparing nutrition care plans, and acts as the nutrition resource person for the hospital.
In addition she/he is expected to teach group sessions on issues related to nutrition and make nutrition related presentations to interested groups in the hospital
The ideal candidate will be required to Manage Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) and Food by Prescription (FBP) feeding programmes including carrying out research and development of new nutritional products to meet emerging clients needs.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • Bsc in Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized University
  • Must be a registered member of the Nutritionists and Dieticians Council
  • Minimum (two) 2 years experience in a busy clinical setting
Senior House Officers (Doctors)

Reporting to the Head clinician, the Senior House Officers are required to apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention and management of disease.
He/She will be expected to work in the wards and at our out-patient clinics.
The ideal candidates must also be able to provide guidance and support in management of various healthcare condition of patients.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery(MBchB) or its equivalent
  • Registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
  • Training in Paediatric Advanced Life support(EPLS)/ETAT or equivalent
  • Must possess teaching and mentorship skills
  • Three (3) years post internship
House Officer (Doctors)

Reporting to the Head clinician, the House Officers are required to apply medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention and management of disease.
She/he will be expected to work in the wards and at our out-patient clinics.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery(MBchB) or its equivalent
  • Registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
  • Training in Paediatric Advanced Life support(EPLS)/ETAT or equivalent
  • Two (2) years post internship
Nurse Sisters
Ref: 004/08/2010
Reporting to Charge sister in the wards or Assistant Manager – Out Patient department, the Nurse Sisters as primary care givers must be able to play a key role in assessing children’s nursing needs, taking into account their medical, social, cultural and family circumstances.
He/she is expected to plan and deliver care in a variety of settings (both in and outpatient), as well as during transfers between these settings.
The ideal candidate must be able to take a team leadership role, communicate appropriately with children and their parents or guardians as a key part of their job, as is working in partnership with other health care professionals to ensure optimal care.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • BSN/Kenya Registered Nurse/ Paedriatic Nurse training or equivalent Pediatric Life Support Training or its equivalent Nursing Council of Kenya registration
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant working experience
  • Management training will be an added advantage
Senior Staff Nurses

Reporting to Charge sister in the ward or Assistant Manager
  • Out Patient department, the Senior Staff Nurses as primary care givers must be able to assess children’s nursing needs, develop and implement nursing care plans including maintaining of medical records.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • BSN/Kenya Registered Nurse/ Paedriatic Nurse training or equivalent
  • Pediatric Life Support Training or its equivalent
  • Nursing Council of Kenya registration
  • He/she must possess a minimum of three (3) years relevant working experience
Pharmaceutical Technologists

Reporting to the Chief Pharmacist, the Pharmaceutical Technologist is responsible for dispensing medicines, related products and providing relevant information on medication use in line with specific patient needs.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • Diploma in Pharmacy Training
  • Registered to practice as a Pharmaceutical Technologist in Kenya
  • Three (3) years hospital pharmacy skills
Laboratory Technologists

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technologists must provide accurate and timely laboratory results that are crucial to the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • Higher National Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Registered to practice as a laboratory technologist in Kenya
  • Three (3) years hospital experience in medical laboratory
Credit Officer
Ref: 008/08/2010
Reporting to the Credit Manager, the Credit Control Officer will be ensuring effective debt management.
The ideal candidate will be required to ensure that the hospitals credit policy and documentation is appropriate and adhered to.
He/she must be able to formulate and ensure that all credit procedures, standards, processes and systems are being followed.
The minimum requirements for the position are as follows:
  • University Graduate, CPA (II)
  • Diploma in Credit Management
  • Credit control – 3 (three) years experience
The ideal candidates must display commitment to first rate customer service and a can-do attitude and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The clinical roles require those individuals who will demonstrate empathy towards patients, take consultation as a learning opportunity and can manage emergencies. All candidates must be computer literate.
