Pamoja Child Foundation is looking for: a Director F/M


Pamoja Child Foundation is a small organization that enables orphans and vulnerable children, in Awasi and Nyang’oma locations in Nyanza Province, to fulfill their rights to education, health, protection and improved livelihood, so they can develop to their full potential. To achieve its mission, Pamoja offers individual sponsorship, creates safe havens in primary schools and strengthens community groups in their aim to be self reliant.

Pamoja Child Foundation is seeking to recruit a Director, preferably as soon as possible, but latest per the 1st of October 2010. The ideal candidate for this post will be an inspirational leader with extensive experience in rural/community development work and who is able to transfer knowledge to various groups that need empowerment. The incumbent has a proven track record in child rights based approaches and is willing to work and live in (or around) Awasi.

Answering directly to the Board, s/he will satisfy the following requirements.
Key responsibilities
  1. Providing leadership and vision in regards to the implementation of Pamoja’s strategic plan 2010- 2012 and annual plans;

  2. Coordinate, manage and evaluate staffing and training needs of Pamoja to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness;
  3. Provide leadership and project management through coordination, supervision and evaluation of the implementation of project activities;
  4. Manage budgets and ensure that set objectives are met;
  5. Set up and facilitate capacity building activities and training;
  6. Represent the organisation, establish and strengthen partnerships, integrate, link and refer for comprehensive care and support and for improved project visibility;
  7. Grants management, including fundraising and assessment and choice of CSO/partners to be contracted for implementation;
  8. Establish systems and structures and provide technical support to staff and local implementing partners;
  9. Undertake operations research and dissemination of lessons learnt on a regular basis, including technical reports to donors;
  10. Prepare accurate and timely reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis showing progress against set targets.

Qualifications and experience
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  1. Bachelors Degree in social/ community development/ project management;
  2. A minimum of three years experience in working directly with communities or in community- based projects;
  3. A minimum of 2 years of management experience;
  4. Demonstrable proficiency/experience in project accounting/financial management;
  5. Strong project management skills and proven experience;
  6. Leadership and capacity building skills (motivational leadership);
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise a team;
  8. Excellent proven interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  9. Excellent decision- making skills, effective problem- solving and mediation skills;
  10. Excellent report writing skills;
  11. Proficiency with office computer equipment and software.
