Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) Director, Outreach and Resource Mobilization Job Vacancy

The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) seeks applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Director, Outreach and Resource Mobilization.

This is an exciting, unique and challenging new position for a proactive individual with excellent record in resource mobilization and outreach.

The Director of Outreach and Resource mobilization will be responsible for three major activities:
  • The coordination, supervision and implementation of activities related to the establishment, strengthening and streamlining of coastal and marine outreach programmes;
  • Managing the scientific services and consultancy functions of the Association, in line with the guidance provided by the WIOMSA Board of Trustees and in fulfilment of WIOMSA’s strategic plan and creating opportunities for members and non-members to offer marine scientific services and consultancy functions

  • Mobilizing science for sustainable development by creating links between scientific and technical capacity and science users, including the private sector, governments and donors, identifying users’ needs for data and information.
Among other criteria, the successful candidate should have at least 8 to 10 years professional experience, of which at least three must be at a senior level in scientific coordination and in the provision of consultancy services and technical advice in one or more of the following areas: EIA/SEA, fisheries management, coastal zone planning and management, conservation planning.

The candidate should have project management experience including project development, budgeting, implementation, and reporting.

Proven experience in developing successful proposals for medium to large environmental and developmental projects (at national or regional scale in the WIO region) will be an added advantage.

WIOMSA is looking for someone with a strong commitment to the marine environment and development, an open mind set, entrepreneurial and flexible attitudes as well as strong interpersonal skills.

Based in Zanzibar, this position provides an opportunity to lead design of consortia project proposals, liaise with donor agencies and civil society organizations and build the capacity of colleagues and partner organizations.

Conditions of the Contract:

The person selected for the position will be appointed for a period of one year, renewable depending on the performance. A competitive remuneration package is offered, depending on qualification and experience.
