The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development (MOGCSD)'s mandate is to provide services and coordination on issues of gender, children, and social development. This will be delivered through a 5 year ministerial Strategic Plan 2008 - 2012 which is aligned to Kenya Vision 2030.

UNIFEM is seeking for a technical officer to be seconded to the ministry of Gender reporting to the Secretary for Gender and Social Development through the normal government procedures on supervision.
The overall objective of this position is to support the ministry to deliver its mandate on gender mainstreaming and to complement the efforts of the existing staff. UNIFEM together with the ministry of gender have recently concluded a gender mainstreaming study that among other things proposed a framework for gender mainstreaming for governments, one of the key tasks for this position is to operationalize the framework in the Kenya Government context.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The demand for gender mainstreaming within the overall GOK planning framework is extensive and complex to deliver on its mandate and on the vision 2030. The Technical advisor's duties will be to advise the ministry on gender mainstreaming within the Government Planning framework.
Requirements:
  • Masters Degree, with specialization on gender and development, Economics, law or other relevant social science.
  • 5 to 7 years experience in Gender and gender related work at International Level
  • Completely conversant with best practices in gender mainstreaming
  • Good understanding of the Government of Kenya Planning and budgeting frameworks
