The Credit Control & Customer Billing Department within the Finance Division of Safaricom Limited is responsible for managing the credit relationship between the organization and its debtor’s portfolio.

To build on the existing team of professionals, we are looking to fill the following position
Principal Credit Controllers
FIN – PCC – JUL10

Reporting to the Senior Manager - Credit and Customer Billing, the job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:
  • Maximize revenue collection through diligent adherence of processes and tools necessary to deliver forecasted collections in the respective debt portfolio;
  • Oversee the debt management process, debtors portfolio and ensure all collection targets are adhered to;

  • Ensure all customers queries are resolved within the stipulated Service Level Agreements in achieving & sustaining a high customer delight Index(CDI);
  • Ensure debt management process is conducted effectively and all collection targets are timely;
  • Conduct daily coordination of collection by the external collection agency and give a progressive report every month;
  • Liaise with the Senior Manager-Credit Control in reviewing targets for the collections agencies and interpret to them the collection pattern and give a progressive report every month;
  • Conduct an accurate cost benefit analysis on the engaged collection agencies and evaluate their effectiveness in the debt portfolio management;
  • Manage assigned projects and processes review for the department in ensuring alignment to departmental & organizational objectives;
  • Manage departmental processes documentation for all tasks within Credit Control and interpret the individual process to the stakeholders within the company;
  • Develop a high performing and motivated team and guide staff to achieve their career goals.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies:
  • A Bachelor of Commerce degree from a recognized university;
  • Professional accounting certification e.g. CPA (K), ACA or ACCA will be an added advantage;
  • Professional qualifications in credit management preferably a Diploma in Credit Management;
  • At least 8 years work experience in Credit and/or Risk Management in a busy commercial environment of which 2 years should be in a supervisory role;
  • Excellent knowledge and hands on working experience in operating Microsoft Office suite, accounting software and Oracle Financials is essential;
  • Ability to demonstrate sound experience, technical competence, effective team leadership and liaison skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of the contemporary local and regional GSM issues affecting debt offering;
  • Have a positive approach to ensuring complete customer Delight;
  • Must have good leadership, managerial and supervisory skills coupled with hands on experience in mentoring/coaching staff;
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
