Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) Jobs in Kenya: Integration Counseling Program Manager

HIAS, Inc., the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, one of the oldest immigration and refugee assistance organizations, is recruiting a Project Manager to work in its Kenya Country Office, and in Kakuma refugee camp, primarily on Integration Counseling activities with refugees. The duration of the post is 6 months.
Closing date: 08 Aug 2010 Location: Kenya – Frequent visits to Kakuma refugee camp
Requirements:
Education and skills:
  • University degree, preferably in the social sciences, education, psychology, sociology
  • Proven analytical ability
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Capacity building and training skills
  • Strong skills with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage international and national staff
Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written English
Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years management experience
  • Proven track record of developing programs in short time frames
  • Work experience in a challenging environment
  • Familiarity with integration and/or psychosocial issues in refugee populations
  • Knowledge and experience in resettlement and in particular the US refugee resettlement process
  • Experience in consultations and liaison with governments, the UNHCR and non-governmental organizations
  • Experience in designing and implementing training and capacity building activities
  • Experience with providing Cultural Orientation to refugees en route to resettlement in the US an advantage
  • Experience working in Africa or with African refugee populations a plus
  • Knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation systems
Duties & responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and support to the HIAS Integration Counseling pilot project in Kenya.
  • Assist in developing and enhancing various forms and protocols, work plan, policy, and guidelines for continuum of care practices in refugee resettlement
  • Monitor case processing to ensure transparency and efficiency in case handling
  • Ensure that standard operating procedures for integration counseling are implemented including mechanisms for assuring confidentiality
  • Maintain regular contacts with relevant partners
  • Design and facilitate training activities for HIAS staff and partners
  • Compile and submit periodic reports and statistics
  • Provide briefings, and perform other tasks that may be required
Competencies/Abilities:
  • Interest in the psychological health of refugees
  • Ability to prioritize activities
  • Ability to work in a systematic, creative and collaborative way with colleagues and partners
  • Knowledge of human rights issues, especially in the African context, a plus
  • Ability to commit to and uphold principles of non-discrimination and confidentiality in all aspects of work
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for all persons regardless of origin, status, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, or other individual characteristics
