FilmAid International (FilmAid) invites qualified Kenyan applications
 to fill the above position.

FilmAid International is a non-governmental organization that uses film to promote health, strengthen communities and enrich the lives of the world’s vulnerable and uprooted. FilmAid is currently implementing programmes in Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya.

The Program Assistant will be based in Kakuma with the general objective to provide program implementation support to FAI Field programs in Kakuma. The Program Assistant reports to the Program Manager and will fulfill the following functions.
Key Responsibilities:

  • To Form messaging committees in Kakuma comprising relevant stakeholders – UNHCR, implementing partners, GoK and refugee community representatives
  • Meet regularly with FilmAid messaging and advisory committees in Kakuma, which will comprise of members from the refugee community and partner agencies staff and involve them in all phases of the project. The program assistant will work closely with the script writer/drama director and other relevant program staff in discussing with the messaging committee various issues of concern and also identify approaches to addressing these problems within the communities.
  • Conduct Focus Group Discussions with various members of the community – religious leaders, community leaders, youth (both in and out of school), women, girls, and parents on topical issues of concern to FilmAid
  • Work closely with the Program Manager and other production crew and staff to oversee message development for FilmAid productions; including working closely with messaging committees, advisory committees, production staff and consultants, actors, and other agency staff.
  • Develop facilitation guides for the films to be produced, and conduct facilitation skills training for the incentive staff on using the guides developed.
  • Supervise outreach refugee volunteer staff ensuring that screenings are performed according to work-plans and facilitation is carried out satisfactorily
  • Design information and dissemination plans for the films developed to ensure coverage of all areas and variety of target groups
  • Work closely with the Program Manager in providing regular updates of the production and dissemination through quantitative and qualitative reports.
  • Work closely with the Program Manager in developing work-plans, proposals and budgets for program activities in Kakuma
  • Work with the field staff in keeping accurate statistics of daytime and evening screening attendances
  • Monitor and collect feedback on production and dissemination activities.
  • Maintain statistics, photos and quotes database and share with Nairobi staff on a monthly basis
  • Compile weekly reports to be submitted to the Program Manager on a weekly basis
  • Act as the liaison between FilmAid, the refugee community and other agencies in Kakuma on issues pertaining to information dissemination activities in Kakuma.
  • Compile regularly stories highlighting FilmAid activities and any other relevant stories and news items to be posted on FilmAid blogs, Facebook, twitter accounts and websites
  • Oversee and authorize all Kakuma petty cash payments following FilmAid finance procedures
  • Be familiar with both FilmAid and the Kenya Codes of conduct.
  • Create and maintain an environment that is free from sexual exploitation and abuse to beneficiaries of the program and report any suspected violations of the Code of Conduct as per the FAI reporting procedures
  • Act as FilmAid representative in Kakuma in the absence of the Program Manager or when directed
Requirements:
  • Degree or diploma in Sociology/Community Development/ Social Sciences with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and at least one computerized accounting system.
  • Knowledge in editing will be an added advantage
  • Ready to work for long hours
  • Team player, excellent interpersonal, organizational, multitasking and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in community development and participatory approaches.
  • Excellent administrative, communications, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work well in unstable security environments, and under intense administrative and programmatic pressures
  • Familiar with monitoring and evaluation methodologies
  • Preferred experience in community outreach and educational activities
  • Experience in the development of IEC materials, Behavior Change Communication (BCC) methodologies and/or development communications an added advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Swahili language skills.
  • Must be culturally sensitive and have the ability and interest to identify and work with a multi-ethnic team.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing requirements
  • Ability to easily learn technical skills
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action
