Coffee Board of Kenya Expression of Interest to Reconstruct Accounts Records for the Period 2005/2006–2009/2010

1. Background
The Coffee Board of Kenya is a State Corporation, whose mandate is to promote competitiveness in the Coffee industry; production, processing and branding of Kenya Coffee and generally to regulate the coffee industry in the public interest.
The Board’s main offices are located in Nairobi at the Coffee Plaza Building, Haile Selassie Avenue.
The Board requires the services of a professional accounting firm to reconstruct and update its books of accounts.
2. The Assignment

Some accounts in the Board’s books of account are mis-stated and thus need to be reconstructed and verified. The assignment will cover the periods FY 2005/2006 to FY 2009/2010.
The main focus will be on the following accounts:
  • Reconstruction of the Board’s Creditors’ Ledger;
  • Reconstruction of the Board’s Debtors’ Ledger;
  • Reconstruction of the Board’s Cash books and performance of bank reconciliations for the period indicated;
  • Preparation of Financial records: Balance sheet, income statement and cash flows for the said years
3. Expected Deliverables
The successful professional accounting firm will be expected to reconstruct the accounts and submit a status report on the accuracy of the balances in the above accounts and a recommendation on the way forward.
The firm will be expected to demonstrate high level of professional competence and observe strict client confidentiality.
The reconstructed financial statements should be in conformance with;
  • The international accounting standards
  • Legal requirements in Kenya
  • Coffee Board of Kenya’s policies
1. Requirements of the firm
  • Must have its partners registered with ICPAK;
  • Provide a copy of certificate of Registration of the firm, VAT certificate and PIN No.
  • Copy of the current practicing certificate of the firm;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in accountancy and auditing; and
  • Provide copies of current practicing certificates of the firms’ partners.
2. Request for Expression of Interest
Eligible reputable professional accounting firms are invited to submit plain sealed envelopes clearly marked “CBK/E1RAR/2010-2011“Reconstruction of Accounts” to reach the address indicated below, or be deposited in the Tender Box situated on the Ground Floor, Coffee Plaza Building, not later than 10.00 a.m. on 5th August 2010.
Late submissions will not be considered.
The EOI must demonstrate the firm’s ability to carry out this assignment, clear understanding of the assignment, and an overview of the methodology to be used in undertaking the assignment.
Following evaluation of the Expressions of Interest, only qualified short listed firms will be invited to submit a detailed Technical and Financial proposal.
