World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) Jobs: Programme Assistant – Garissa

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is supporting the implementation of the Millennium Villages Project (MVP).
This five (5) year project employs a community-based integrated development approach to help lift rural communities
out of the poverty trap that afflicts more than a bilion people worldwide.
The Millennium Villages Project (MVP) is supported by Millennium Promise, a non-profit organization, whose vision is the eradication of extreme global poverty.
Millennium Promise’s mission is to encourage individuals and organizations to join the fight against global poverty,
disease, and hunger through an unprecedented campaign that draws on the support of all parts of society — individuals, businesses, charitable organizations, faith-based groups, governments — to ensure the success of the
Millennium Development Goals by 2015 and the end of extreme poverty by 2025.
Position:
ICRAF/MVP is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of a Programme Assistant.
The incumbent will be based in Garissa.
Reporting to the Team Leader and Science Coordinator, Garissa, the Programme Assistant’s responsibilities are to:

  • Assist the project Team Leader in overall management and oversight of the MVP Research village in Dertu;
  • Provide support in organizing daily schedules and monthly calendars of project activities;
  • Ensure effective communication and smooth flow of information within different levels of staff and partners;
  • Coordinate project visits, field days and other public awareness activities;
  • Work in liaison with the Data Base Manager on monitoring and evaluation documentation for all sectors;
  • Ensure proper documentation of project activities (progress and budget reports, brochures, and maintaining database of reports and pictures);
  • Assist the Team Leader in overseeing and documenting student and intern attachments
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in development science, Public or Business Management, Sociology, Socioeconomics, or any other related field.
  • At least three years experience in a relevant position in a wral area
  • Adaptive and have demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a across cultural and multi disciplinary environment
  • Computer literate and able to use word processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet packages.
  • Should be a team player, and productive under minimal supervision and work under high pressure
  • Fluency in English and Swahili are essential

The contract is for an initial period of one (1) year, renewable subject to a three (3) month probation period, assessment of performance, and availability of resources.
