UNDP Kenya Jobs: Programme Co-ordintator (Clean Development mechanism)

Background
Building the capacity of Kenya and other Afncan countries to access the CDM is the focus of a UNDP project spanning a ‘cluster’ of six countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritius, Zambia and Mozambique.
The fundamental objective of the project is to assist the participating countries to create an ‘operational CDM framework’ – an environment in which functioning public institutions are able to effectivety interact with the private sector to jointly develop CDM projects.
The National Project Coordinator wil manage CDM capacity development activities in Kenya.
Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in Economics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Business or public administration, Engineering or related fields.
Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Experience of working with UNDP and/or UNEP is desirable but not essential.
  • Extensive project management experience, with skills in facilitation and coordination, and demonstrated ability to work in an independent manner.
  • Experience of hiring and managing consultants is desirable.
  • Solid knowledge of climate change issues, principally mitigation measures and the Clean Development Mechanism, is highly desirable. However, demonstrable in-depth knowledge of carbon-related sectors, such as renewable energy, energy efficiency or forestry, is equally valued.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the private sector, particularly with regard to financial valuation and commercial decision-making (pay-back time, net present value, Internal rate of return and related investment concepts).
  • Knowledge of the key Kenyan stakeholders in the fields of CDM, carbon finance and carbon-related sectors, including links with relevant Ministries, the DNA, utilities, NGOs, academic institutions and private sector actors, is highly desirable.
