Self Driven Business Development Manager for an Engineering Consulting Firm in Kenya

Our client, a leading Engineering Consultancy firm based in Nairobi, Kenya with  a huge market presence in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa and with services in Highway Construction and Supervision; Electrical and Mechanical Engineering; Energy and Power Distribution, Environmental Management and Audit as well as Water and Sanitation.
The company seeks to recruit a vibrant Kenyan professional for the position of Business Development Manager. This position will be the overall responsible for the creating of business revenues through networking, relationship building and increasing internal capacity to competitively challenge for existing business opportunities.
The position holder will
  • Design, evaluate and implement appropriate business development strategies in collaboration with the departmental managers
  • Establishing and implementing the budgets for the business development and corporate social responsibility activities
  • Build the company’s capacity to acquire new business through the continuous revision of formats and contents for marketing documents and training the relevant staff in different aspects of proposal writing

  • Continuously carrying out market research on the key service lines to establish opportunities
  • Assessing the company’s market performance through soliciting feedback on marketing initiatives – success and failure reasons; competitor analysis
  • Steering the identification and facilitating the formalization of collaborative arrangements and agreements with relevant and appropriate collaborators and tendering partners within the country as well as other countries
  • Monitoring and where necessary, initiating reviews based on the performance assessment with collaborators on the basis of the associated competitive edge or contribution to strategic partnership objectives
  • Building strong networks institutionally and with other entities for the purpose of strengthening the identification and competitive pursuit of opportunities.
The appropriate candidate for this position should have;
  • A degree in marketing or equivalent
  • Minimum 6  years experience in Business development preferably in high cost service oriented environment such as consulting; software development or engineering consulting
  • reasonable knowledge of engineering consulting industry and preferably with working experience in environmental consulting or highway construction services
  • exposure to set ups requiring high level individual and institutional networking experience coming from a blend of public and commercial set ups
  • demonstrated experience in facilitating formal and informal service delivery collaborations
  • Excellent  communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Proactive and able to take and steer initiatives and strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence people at various levels in the organization.
  • Must possess ability to work under pressure and handle multiple things at the same time.
  • Have the ability to go into details and effective execution skills, very good business understanding
  • Be well versed with correspondence through mails phone.
  • Have positive attitude, clear diction and personal drive.
