National Volunteer Network Trust (NAVNET) Director Job Vacancy

National Volunteer Network Trust (NAVNET) is a Trust registered in Kenya. NAVNET is run by a Board of Trustees. Since 2003, NAVNET has been working through volunteers and in partnership with other organisations in addressing social development issues. NAVNET targets and works with the youth.
NAVNET has a partnership with VSO Jitolee to develop national volunteering in Kenya and has received financial and technical support in this regard from VSO. The Director will be expected to lead NAVNET; manage strategic partnerships and mobilize funds for NAVNET.
The Director will oversee the delivery of projects supported by VSO Jitolee that include: Volunteer Programme Development and Management (VPDM) course, Volunteer Management Systems (VMS) trainings; Employee Volunteering Programme among others.
The Director will also provide support to the Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIO) Network. NAVNET is the host of the VIO Network Secretariat in Kenya.

The Director will report to the Board of Trustees. The contract is 1 year, renewable subject to funding availability.


The Job


The main duties and responsibilities of the director will be:
1. Fund raising and Resource Mobilization
  • Identifying donors; donor liaison and management of donor relations
  • Fundraising/ resource mobilisation for NAVNET and any joint projects with partners
  • Concepts development and proposal writing
  • Partnerships development and management
2. Training and Volunteer Programmes Development
  • Oversee the development of volunteer programmes
  • Oversee the delivery and growth of national volunteering programme; VPDM course, VMS training; Employee Volunteering Programme and any other VSO Jitolee sponsored projects
3. Strategic Leadership of NAVNET
  • Leadership and strategic direction of NAVNET
  • Advising the Trustees; partners and supporters of NAVNET
  • Reporting on NAVNET projects; plans and aspirations to donors; supporters and any other stakeholders
  • Human resource management and guidance to staff
  • Budgeting and financial management
  • Policy development and interpretation
4.  Support to the VIO Network Coordinator in advocacy on volunteerism
  • Support the VIO network coordinator
  • Advocacy on volunteering and volunteerism
Person specifications
You will have:
  • University degree in social sciences, development studies and post graduate qualifications in NGO management; business; administration or marketing
  • A minimum 5 years experience managing a dynamic not for profit organisation, NGO or volunteer involving organisation
  • Proven experience in donor mapping; fundraising and resource mobilisation
  • Strong experience in strategic management and planning for volunteer involving organisations, NGOs and  not for profit organisations
  • Sound knowledge of development issues in East Africa and other parts of the world
  • Exceptional skills in people management,  marketing of services; and  representation
  • Excellent documentation, editing,  communication and IT skills
  • Proven skills in negotiation; partnership development; networking and advocacy
  • Proven experience in developing and managing creative, high performing responsive teams
  • Creativity; innovativeness; sound judgments and a passion to succeed in developing volunteers; staff; partners and volunteer involving organisations
  • Ability to handle large volumes of work quickly; accurately; and produce timely quality reports to relevant  stakeholders
  • Ability  to deal patiently and tactfully with staff;  trustees; volunteers; youth; consultants; partners and donors
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work in a multicultural environment
  • Fluency in English and Swahili: written and spoken
