Leave Allowance: Kshs. 4,000.00 per year

Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry and training grade for Coxswain. Successful candidates will work under the direction and supervision of an experienced Coxswain.
Other duties include cleaning and painting the dock vessels, sentry duties on board a vessel at sea and ashore, securing ships/boats to buoys and jetties and operating windlass to cast or retrieve anchors. Other duties include fish handling and processing, operation and management of life jackets and operation of winches for fish drawing.
Requirements for Appointment:


Applicants should be in possession of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade ‘D+’ or lower. Those in possession of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (CPE/KCPE) and have professional experience and can demonstrate professional competence are encouraged to apply. Successful candidate will undergo practical test.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities at this level will entail rigging of gears and equipment on board vessel, operation and maintenance of life boats.
Others duties may involve marking fishing grounds using maps, land markers and receiving verbal and radio communications.
Requirements for Appointment
Candidates should be in possession of:-
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ or below.
  • Candidates in possession of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE/CPE) and have

  • Coxswain Certificate of Competence from the Kenya Ports Authority or any other recognized institution.
  • Successful candidate will undergo a practical test.
