The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is a public policy research Institute established to develop human and institutional capacities, by undertaking economic forecasting, policy analysis and research; contributing to the formulation of medium and long-term strategic perspectives for development of Kenya; and undertaking capacity building.
To meet its growing demand for analytical work on relevant topics, the Institute invites qualified, experienced and dynamic candidates to fill the following positions in Governance and Trade and Foreign Policy Divisions.
Positions in Governance Division (3 positions)

The Governance Division’s research agenda addresses the key aspirations of the Vision 2030 with particular emphasis on strategies under the political pillar, land reforms, and decentralization. Constitutional reforms, devolution, legal reforms, morality and values, economic governance, peace building and conflict management are critical in work of the division. In the interim the division will focus on land reforms, security and conflict management, constitutional and institutional legal reforms, economic and corporate governance, and devolution and the role and efficacy of regional authorities.
Three positions are available, namely: Senior Analyst, Analyst, and Assistant Analyst.
Senior Analyst: Candidates applying for the Senior Analyst position must have a PhD and at least 5 years of relevant post-doctorate experience in research, policy analysis and/or university teaching. They should also have at least 3 journal papers or journal quality publications. The candidates should possess training and experience in any of the following fields: political science with a background in economics; law with training in economics; economics with a specialization in public finance; public policy and public administration; or, economics with a specialization in political economy. Ability to analyze issues with economic implications will be critical for the ideal candidate.
Analyst: Candidates applying for the Analyst position should have a PhD. Candidates with Masters Degree will also be considered so long as they have at least five years of research or policy analysis experience after their Masters graduation, and at least six (6) publications. They should possess training and experience in any of the following fields: political science with a background in economics; law with training in economics; economics with a specialization in public finance; public policy and public administration; or, economics with a specialization in political economy. Ability to analyze issues with economic implications will be critical for the ideal candidate.
Assistant Analyst: Candidates applying for the Assistant Analyst position must have a Masters Degree and demonstrate potential excellence in policy research and analysis in terms of other post graduate training and publications. They should possess training and experience in any of the following fields: political science with a background in economics; law with training in economics; economics with a specialization in public finance; public policy and public administration; or, economics with a specialization in political economy. Ability to analyze issues with economic implications will be critical for the ideal candidate.
Positions in Trade and Foreign Policy Division (3 positions)
Trade and Foreign Policy Division conducts research and provides policy advice on areas such as global trade negotiations, the implications of regional trade agreements and regional trade blocks, trade liberalization, the role of labor standards in trade agreements and development, trade and investment, and issues on coherence between trade and aid policies. The Division also tackles issues of interest to Kenya on foreign policy relations with major global economic powers.
Three positions are available, namely: Senior Analyst, Analyst, and Assistant Analyst.

Other Requirements
For all above positions, candidates should have a demonstrated track record of publication in their areas of specialization. Candidates should be currently active in carrying out research in the areas applied for. They should be equipped with quantitative skills to collect, input and analyze both primary and secondary data. The candidates should also have necessary skills to supervise research in their areas of specialization and related areas.
Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of policy research analysts are:
  • Researching on and monitoring socio-economic and public policy developments that affect Kenya;
  • Preparing analytical reports, briefing papers, policy briefs, journal articles, and other papers as short-term responses to and long-term frameworks for the development of the country;
  • Providing information and technical assistance to the Institute’s various constituencies about impacts of existing and proposed public policies and programs; and
  • Mentoring and building the capacity of junior researchers and stakeholders in the public policy process.
Terms and Application Procedure
The Institute offers competitive terms and conditions of employment. Successful candidates will be given a 3-year contract, renewable on the basis of performance.
