Purpose: Assist the HIV care team in the provision of dignified and quality medical care to persons and families of those infected by HIV/AIDS.
Duties and responsibilities
- To provide antiretroviral therapy and general medical care to HIV/AIDS infected patients.
- Participate in educational sessions designed for patients and community members.
- Coordinate and participate in Treatment Preparation Seminars for patients beginning ART.
- Participate in community mobilization and education regarding HIV/AIDS, its causes, prevention and therapy.
- Assist with clinic based provision of ART, clinic care and coordinate follow up of patients on ART.
- Visit patients and affected families in their home setting to monitor for Anti retroviral (ART) adherence, drug side effects and opportunistic infections.
- Coordinate community follow up of patients initiated on ART by working with community nurse, social worker and other cadre of HIV care team.
- Train and supervise CHWs and other health care professionals to assist in the provision of community and home based care to patients.
- Implement basic HIV/AIDS counseling and testing, PMTCT, DTC, and PITC.
- Coordinate with other HIV/ART care team members; Clinical, Nursing, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Community, VCT, and Data.
- Maintain confidentiality of all activities to preserve dignity of patients
- Participate in Aids Relief trainings, regular meetings and CMEs of the HIV/ART care team.
- Reviewing general outpatients as the CCC operates in an integrated setup.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Registered Clinical Officer.
- Successful completion of Clinical Officer training and internship.
- Clinical experience especially in dealing with PLWAHs, and a demonstrated desire to see effective care and support delivered to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
- Basic HIV/AIDS Counseling skills and experience.
- Adult and Pediatric ART training an added advantage.
