Requirements of Head of Risk and Governance (HRG)
Our client is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the Head of Risk and Governance position.
The major role of the Head of Risk and Governance is to support the Group CEO and the Senior Management in identification, assessment, monitoring, reporting and management of financial and non financial risks.
The role will support the Kenya businesses including Life Assurance, Asset Managers and Investment Services Businesses.
The role holder will report to the Group CEO. The HRG will supervise the unit risk and compliance Officers and the Security Manager.
The role therefore encompasses:
  • Implementation of an integrated risk management framework across the different businesses including new businesses.
  • Successful management of risk management, control and forensics issues that arise in the various businesses in collaboration with business management
  • Ensuring implementation of Group Risk Policies
  • Successfully clear all historical risk and control issues with the set dates and manage clearance with Group Internal Audit
  • Provide guidance to the Executive committee on the management of risks within their businesses
  • Embedding culture of risk management and forensics awareness in the business
  • Ensuring that risk management reporting is accurate and meets group requirements.
  • Management of the central African Operations support team.
Key requirements are:


  • Master degree in Business administration, Actuarial, Accounting Finance or related field, with professional qualification such as Actuarial, CPA, ACCA or Forensics and a current membership to a relevant professional body.
  • Previous financial services experience including Basel 2 exposure will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 6 years relevant professional experience in the areas of Accounting, and Audit gained from an organization with strong internal control framework.
  • Ability to project manage deliveries and successfully execute agreed strategies
  • Deep understanding of Enterprise Risk management, local legal and Governance environment
  • High level of business acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
