Public Health Specialist (PwP HIV Prevention) – Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Kenya Jobs in Kisumu

The United States Embassy – Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Kenya has a vacancy forPublic Health Specialist (PwP HIV Prevention).
The Public Health Specialist (PwP) will work closely with the HIV Prevention branch, in coordination with other GAP
technical teams, to serve as the key person in the advocacy for People living with HIV (PLHIV) and to provide technical advice for both community and national level PwP services.
The role of this position would be to support the roll-out and upscale of PwP community services; promote meaningful involvement of PLHIV in the fight against HIV, and more specifically, to empower PLHIV to deliver prevention messages through testimonials and open dialogue of shared experiences.
This could include training PLHIV community groups on prevention interventions, public speaking and advocacy skills in an effort to build a cadre of people, especially those who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, who can speak out on HIV prevention.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree in social work, counseling, public health or related field is required.
  • At least 4 years of demonstrated advocacy work for PLHIV involving public speaking, at national level is required.
  • Previous experience in public health, social work or counseling also required.
  • Level IV English ability Level IV Kiswahili is required.
  • Must have good HIV/AIDS knowledge as well as knowledge of psychosocial issues relevant to coping with AIDS.
  • Knowledge of training principles and techniques is also required.
  • Must have supervision and communication skills.
  • Must have ability to collaborate with counterparts including other CDC branches, USG agencies, GoK, NGSs, CBOs and other partner-supported projects.
  • Must have computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets computer programs and excellent in report writing skills.
