Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) Jobs: Systems Administrator

The Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) plays a key role in the economy through raising capital for businesses, mobilizing savings for investment and improving corporate governance.
We do this through providing a world class trading facility. In line with this mandate, the Exchange is seeking to recruit qualified, dynamic, self- motivated and results- oriented individuals to fill the following positions:
Systems Administrator
Overall Purpose
Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology, the Systems Administrator will develop and implement design specifications aimed at the computerisation of all functions, delivery of a comprehensive information security and privacy program for the NSE and to assure that NSE complies with statutory and regulatory requirements regarding information access, security and privacy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Care and maintenance of information technology systems, coordinating the repair and maintenance of hardware systems; including investigating and resolving computer hardware and software problems reported by users to determine whether problem is caused by hardware such as modem, printer, cables, telephone line or software problem such as virus attacks;
  • Evaluate user requests for new, modified or updated software application programmes to determine feasibility and compatibility with current system;
  • Design and install interactive websites that include database connectivity, multimedia and searchable content, troubleshoot basic problems.
  • Keep custody of Company’s data and oversee operational functions in computer rooms Company-wide;
  • Review, test and evaluate both hardware systems and software programmes existing to determine their effectiveness, reliability and compatibility;
  • Develop and implement security procedures for installing new software, considering issues such as employee data access needs and risk of data loss or disclosure.
  • Monitor, diagnose and troubleshoot the computer network backbone which includes network switching systems and servers, organisational data and information, telephone communication systems and intelligent terminal equipment;
  • Investigate and resolve computer hardware and software problems reported by users to determine whether problem is caused by hardware such as modem, printer, cables, telephone line or software problem such as virus attacks;
  • Administering the ATS system – System start-up, shutdown and monitoring the system during real time trading;
  • Coordinating the ATS training and certification Programme : Planning the Classes, Communicating , Responding to technical queries on the ATS system
Minimum Qualifications
  • BSc in Computer Science, Information technology or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum four (4) years experience in systems analysis and design, programming, installation and customisation of computer hardware systems including integrated software programmes
  • Professional training that enhances knowledge in information security such as a CISM or CISA certification or a professional diploma on relevant areas.
  • Advanced and broad IT Knowledge in operating systems, network design and system auditing
  • Solaris Systems Administration
  • Oracle Database Administration
Key Competencies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information and to ensure absolute discretion and sensitivity to confidential matters
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop, implement and deliver effective training programmes.
  • Ability to identify user needs, information data sources and types including application requirements
  • Knowledge of Relational Database Management System and GIS software
  • Knowledge of computer programming, database and decision support systems
  • Knowledge of data and computer security systems
  • Ability to resolve basic hardware/software installation and make adjustments to equipment and retrieve information from databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of ICT developments through continuous professional development
