Management Accountant (JG M3)
Duties & Responsibilities
The position will report to General Manager Finance and provide business focused management accounting services by ensuring that managers use their resource in the most effective way and that budgets are adhered to, that managers are aware, and take account of the financial implications of business plans, budgets, forecasts and subsequent variation to these.
  • Liaising closely with budget holder managers and business units to provide a comprehensive accounting support service, including the provision of financial information and analysis.
  • To coordinate preparation and completion of robust budgets, forecasts and commentaries to facilitate the decision making process and challenge forecasts to ensure that all relevant business information has been taken into account and that reasons for variances are fully documented.
  • Leading managers and accountants in the formulation of financially sound and accurate business plans, presenting alternative financial options whilst maintaining operational guidelines, “best practices” and statutory regulation.

  • Assist in the closing of annual accounts, supporting the business units where necessary.
  • Ensure that business cases prepared are fit for purpose by checking that financial has been prepared in accordance with in house policy and related assumptions are correct and that the business case/investment is feasible in the context of the overall Corporation strategic plan.
  • Ensure compliance with all necessary financial procedures including appropriate budget delegation arrangements and procedures.
  • Managing revenue and the Corporation’s debt.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the management accounting service provided to customers and make recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business administration.
  • Must be a CPA (K), ACCA, CIMA or its equivalent.
  • At least 7 (seven) years progressive accounting experience, 3 of which should have been in a supervisory role.
  • Budgeting, accounting, forecasting and resource allocation in a devolved organization, preferably within public sector.
  • Project monitoring
  • Financial reporting, management and contractual matters in a public sector environment desirable.
  • Excellent ability to interpret and report financial information.
  • Ability to learn and use new financial and accounts systems.
  • Good influencing, networking and cross functional working skills.
  • Excellent level of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in standard  office Computer Programs and applications
  • Experience working with ERP will be an added advantage.
