especting the assisted populations\’ customs and culture, SOLIDARITES\’ programmes are implemented through the joint expertise of around 150 expatriates and 1500 local managerial staff and employees. Nowadays, SOLIDARITES is present in Africa (Burundi, Central African Republic, Southern Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Liberia, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe), in Asia (Afghanistan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Myanmar) and in Haïti.
Overview of Solidarités’ mission in the country
The joint Kenya / Somalia mission is relatively young (started in March 2007) and includes 3 projects in Somalia, and 2 projects in Kenya. In Kenya, SOLIDARITES has one project in Lodwar (Turkana), and another one in Nairobi’s slums. All these projects focus on Water and Sanitation and Food Security, whether in an emergency context or a recovery context. The base of North Horr is in stand-by for the moment. In Somalia, SOLIDARITES has one project in Bardera district / Gedo, another one in Afmadow district / Lower Juba, and another one in Adaado in Central Somalia (started in April 2010)
Objectives of this position

The Logistics coordinator is the responsible for the proper implementation of logistics procedures in all Kenya and Somalia programs. He is a technical focal point for procurement and transport for the Kenya / Somalia team. The Logistics coordinator is under the direct responsibility of the Country Director and will work closely with the Administration Coordinator. The logistics coordinator is directly responsible for the procurement officer, the transport officer and drivers.
Tasks of this position
Environment analysis
  • Spot the different political, administrative and technical partners
  • Spot monetary tracks, local ways of producing, infrastructures, distribution systems Procurement
  • Manage the procurement of goods and services in line with Solidarités rules.
  • Ensure timely follow up of purchase requests received from field.
Logistics staff Management
  • Supervise, advice and coordinate the Logistics expatriate staff for Kenya and Somalia missions
  • Help and support the expatriates logisticians on the field in terms of set up and procedures Vehicles Fleet Management
  • Coordinate and anticipate the vehicles needs in Nairobi Transport Management
  • The logistics coordinator is the responsible for the entire transport chain from Nairobi to the field (planes, trucks) for goods and passengers
Stock Management
  • Ensure that the Logisticians on the field have completely understood the rules and regulations in terms of Solidarités/Donors procedures of storage.
Supply
  • Plan and anticipate the deliveries from Paris/Nairobi to the field in collaboration with the field logisticians. The logistics coordinator in the warrant of the procedures’ respect;
Follow up of the durable equipments
  • Make and update on a daily basis the durable equipments list for Nairobi’s base.
Computer Management
  • Follow up of the proper use of laptops/desktops at the mission level.
  • To ensure the proper use of Antivirus and the daily maintenance
  • To ask for assistance at the headquarter level before to send any laptop to France.
Security
  • The Logistics Coordinator is in support the security management for Kenya, the main issues are discussed jointly with the Head of Mission.
  • Help to collect and update on daily basis the information regarding the security environment at the mission level.
  • Edit the security guidelines and the evacuation plan at the mission level for Kenya
  • Inform the national and expatriate staff about the rules, regulations and penalties for Kenya and staff passing through Nairobi
Candidate Profile
Expériences:
  • Bac+2-Bac+5 (or équivalent) Logistic/Technologies/Management.
  • Experience of logistics in NGO requested (2 years)
  • Previous experience with Solidarités (good knowledge of Solidarités procedures).
  • Good skills on procurement and transport
  • Experience of team management
  • Experience of high security context is a strong advantage
Languages:
  • English (working language): fluent with excellent writing capacities
  • French or Kiswahili remains desirable
Personal skills:
  • High self-control capacity, rigour.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and live in a sometimes solitary environment with significant restrictions on personal movement.
  • Reactivity and adaptation to a very moving context
Conditions
Contract Length: 12 months, starting ASAP
Salary / Indemnity:
  • Salaried contract SOLIDARITES will pay for accommodation and travel expenses from the expatriate’s country of origin to the site of the assignment
  • Depending on the assignment, volunteers receive each month on the premises a 400 to 500 Euros amount in order to meet food and other expenses
  • Social and medical cover: Expatriates are on welfare which reimburses all healthcare expenses (medical and surgical expenses, dental care and ophthalmological expenses, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks.
  • Necessary vaccination and anti malarial treatment costs are refunded.
  • Vacation: During the assignment, a system of alternation between work and time off is implemented: SOLIDARITES impose breaks between two working periods. One break every three months. For a one year duration assignment, the expatriate will have a break during the 3rd and the 9th month after the beginning of the assignment (with a 500 Euros amount deposited by Solidarités). He/She will also be entitled to go back to France for a 15 day period after six months spent on the mission (Solidarités will pay for travel costs)
