Legal Officer (JG M4)
Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Services, the Legal Officer will offer legal advisory and Board secretariat services to the Corporation in the following areas:
  • Providing sound legal advisory services to the Board of Directors and Management;
  • Providing advise on various criminal and civil matters affecting the Corporation;
  • Participating in negotiations on concession related matters;
  • Liaising with external advocates in prosecuting and defending legal matters on behalf of the Corporation;
  • Assisting the Corporation Secretary in providing Board secretariat services to the Board of Directors and its Committees as and when called upon to do so;
  • Communicating Board directives to Management;
  • Drafting, perusing and vetting leases and other contracts;
  • Negotiating with the Corporation’s judgement creditors and debtors;
  • Monitoring contractual and statutory compliance;
  • Receiving correspondence, orders and pleadings and acting on them;
  • Carrying out research and preparing reports and legal opinions on legal issues;
  • Sensitizing Management and staff on statutory provisions affecting the corporation;
  • Attending court as Assisting Counsel on behalf of the Corporation;
Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university;
  • Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law;
  • Certificate of Admission to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya;
  • Current year’s practicing certificate;
  • Good communication, presentation, research and analysis skills at least 5 years post admission work experience in a busy law firm or a large commercial organization;
  • Knowledge of court rules and procedures;
  • Must be hands on in interpretation and application of legal texts and statutes;
  • Should be proactive, self motivated;
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills;
  • Ability to handle pressure and work with minimum or no supervision;
  • Must be computer literate.
Terms of offer
